Louisiana went 2-1 in the last three games with four tough games in a row coming up this week and next. It will be interesting to see how we fare. Texas State always worry me and depending which UTA team shows up at the Cajun Dome we could get our first L at home this year.

The Cajuns are presently 51 in RPI. That is getting close to at-large consideration

Troy/USA at Coastal/App could be huge for one of those teams if they go 2-0, especially with TxSt and GaSo's schedules.

The Cajuns have no chance at an at large.
Georgia State at Georgia Southern on Friday could be fun. But the Eagles have to play better than they have been the last few games.
I think if the Cajuns win their two home games this week, the regular season is pretty much over.

They are out of it. They'd need to get into the 30's to have a chance, and they'd have to take another loss in the league tournament to do it. We all know the selection committee isn't going to take a Sun Belt At large over a P5 at large with a worse RPI and record.

The 21 RPI of the Belt doesn’t help Louisiana either

Neither did their OOC schedule. Selection Committee probably isn't going to look too kindly at the Cajuns playing the entire state of Louisiana outside of LSU and Tulane in OOC play.

That is a huge topic of conversation on Ragin pagin. Our scheduling has been garbage under Marlin. With the main excuse being a) we don’t have money to buy better games, or b) no one better than what we scheduke is willing to do a home and Home.
I don’t agree with either. But our schedules suck and we generally don’t perform well against better teams. We compete really well with teams who are on par with us though.

The Men (and Women) of Troy are quietly putting together a nice little stretch run. Both are eerily similar to last year that ended with conference titles for both programs.

Every AD and MBBHC in this conference can verify name teams almost always refuse to come to SBC arenas on home-and-home contracts. Name teams see nothing to gain and too much to risk losing. The OOC analysis by the NCAA selection committee does nothing to encourage name teams to do otherwise. The NCAA has no incentive to change the process. The money that fuels the NCAA is tied to the continued success of those name teams. Occasional wins by SBC teams on the home courts of name teams only makes them more aware of the risks.

Yeah, I fully believe that no one is willing to play you guys. We have the same problem. There's just a difference between filling schedule hole's with say Southern, and actually looking for some upper level Mid Majors who are far more willing to come to Lafayette, needing the same scheduling strength that you guys do.
I know people think instate games are attractive, but when the opponent sucks, it really doesn't change anything. Why not schedule a 2 year home and home with a New Mexico State type team instead? Sure, it's probably not the local attraction of a McNeese State, but the RPI looks far better at the end of the day.
You guys could legitimately win 28 games and fail to make the NCAA Tournament. That's insane.

I wonder how much the bonuses for number of wins sway coaches not to push too hard even with the better mid-majors as potentially attractive opponents for home and away.

I would buy some of this if it weren't the case for everyone.
No one in this league plays a decent schedule.
But look at CUSA.
They have money to buy teams and MOST of them play a crap schedule. The reality is threefold.
1. No good team is going to play you home and home.
2. If you buy teams, you aren't going to get quality opponents.
3. Geography, to a great extent, has a lot to do with your OOC scheduling
People can ***** about it all they want. None of them have ever tried to schedule anyone.

Then why does every mid major coach, including ours, say they want an improved home schedule? Surely if that is true for EVERY mid major, then it should not be a problem to find quality opponents for home and home arrangements.
It being the case for everyone is the biggest argument in favor of the record padding theory.

Jags win at App 77-66 for our FIRST road win of the year. Sad but true. I’m tempted to rename this thread “Jags Win First Road Game of Year and Other Week 8 Basketball Games.”

We got ours last week, the new followed it up with another one for the Georgia sweep!
Speaking of ULM, we just beat UTA 84-71
