Who was the last person to see him?

He was last seen at the Package store on Southern at Boston with all the Rhodes Scholars that are hanging out there working on ways to end world hunger.

If you'd said he was hanging out at a comic book store I might have believed it.

Didn’t you have me blocked for years? Because that makes more sense that to think I’m the dude who would hang out at a comic book store. I’d guess a shake junt or a hookah bar or something.

I think I did. Then I found out you like SF and Fantasy and comic books. Or so I thought, anyway. That takes precedence over everything else. Sorry if I thought you'd be looking for reading material than hanging at a liquor store.

I like sci-fi. Not into fantasy. I like comic book movies, not comic books. I said shake junts (strip clubs) and hookah bars, not liquor stores. FYI, I don’t like either of those places either, though you’d find me at a shake junt before hookah bar. I don’t smoke; I don’t mind naked women. I just cannot suspend disbelief.

Too bad you blocked me just because I had opposing viewpoints from you (because I definitely haven’t been an MT.org troll in all my time here).

Maybe, but we didn't rip each other up either. Too many other things going on now to worry about that. I'll still drop a snarky comment or two but that's more habit than anything else.

Good thing he is a lawyer and not a real estate investor. He tends to sell land way below market value.

How is what they do any different than hanging out at the bar? When I get to the bar, I sure as hell don't begrudge everyone there for not being at work then.

You are correct. The classiest residents in Memphis hang out in the parking lot at Boston and Southern and also at Bellevue and Lamar.

It is odd. I never see people hanging out in the parking lot at Farmington and Germantown Road or Shady Grove and Briarcrest. Why is that?

Little south of that.

I don't believe the people hanging out at the convenience store parking lot on the corner at 10am are students at Bruce, Bellevue or Central.

Wonder how many of the people hanging out have to stay 150ft from any school?

I'll ignore karter's inane comments.

Personally, I think Strickland has done a decent job overall. It could be argued that some of the things he's doing to combat crime aren't the answer, but he is making huge headway in the number of officers hired, 911 response time, etc. Sure, there's room for improvement, but there always is.

Communication has VASTLY improved under him. The weekly recap emails are just PR, but the info in them is interesting. Also, social media responses are extremely fast. There's also clear plans laid out on street improvements, etc.

Doesn't sound like Mayor Strickland was saying anything about actually stopping annexation as much as saying that annexation wasn't a feasible way grow the city financially.

The problem with the sentiment in that article, and the term "Toy Town", is that Germantown (for example) was founded in 1825. Memphis was founded in 1819. At that time, the two towns were a day's horse ride away from each other. The article paints a picture of a bunch of white flight as the birth of these so-called "toy towns", when the truth is, Memphis and Germantown both grew up, grew out, and grew to eventually touch each other.

Germantown wasn’t a “toy town.”

That said, GTown didn’t get a thousand residents until 1960.

The population went from 3,474 in 1970 to 21,467 in 1980. Maybe Gtown’s growth had everything to do with everyone getting rich or something, but it seem to coincide with the bussing plan Memphis City Schools was ordered to implement.

But to make it seem like Germantown grew with Memphis is a disingenuous comment. Germantown grew due to Memphis.

I don't know... We just used a private school instead of moving because of bussing. Well... until I was 10. Then we moved to Germantown in 1977.

By the way, If Germantown wasn't a Toy Town, neither was Collierville, Cordova, or Bartlett.

Toy towns was used to refer to those unincorporated areas which tried to create “towns” that were only methods to prevent being annexed by larger cities; they weren’t necessarily going to actually do the things a town government would really need to do.

The existing towns in Shelby County were not toy towns. It was something like Eads that could have been incorporated just to block annexation but not actually go through the actual steps to become a town.

Cordova would have been a toy town. It had never been incorporated and it was ground zero for fighting annexation.

The suburbs of Germantown and Bartlett exploded as bussing was implemented.

Collierville exploded because of Nonconnah/Bill Morris and Gtown running out of space. Desoto Country and Tipton County exploded over Shelby County property taxes.

What was wrong with the bussing plan?

What was the solution for people who couldn't afford private schools or moving?

I grew up North of the Mason Dixon so I really never knew anything about it.
