Appears that we have not offered him (yet). This is a Tweet from Prince yesterday:

RE: 2018 Football Recruiting
The key number right now is 85 scholarships. I honestly think we will see only two to three more for the February 2018 signing day, if Grissom and Mackey are not playing in the Fall of 2018 it could be more. No matter how you shift it around its still 85 scholies maximum.

Grissom is participating in team workouts, would expect him ready to compete.

I agree that the 85 number is the big number now.

There are 3 numbers which the staff has to deal:

1). Number of prior year open scholarship (unused 2017 scholarships).

2). The hard 25 limit for one academic year (2018/9).

3). The hard 85 limit total scholarships in effect for 2018/9.

#1 is basically 'history'. They have been given out whatever that number was.

The question and the staff, not us, knows the answer: What is the next number which we'll bump up again: 25 2018/9 scholarships or 85?

What is TRICKY about this is that SOME scholarships given out last month count as 2017 (!!) scholarships. The mid-year JUCOs, etc. can count against LAST YEAR's 25, not the coming year.

What we may not realize is that '16' number (17 with Wiegers) is more like say maybe 12. E.g., take 17 and say 5 count against 2017, then that means EMU gave out 12 2018 scholarships.

Getting back to '79's main point, we should hit 85 (total) before we hit 25 new 2018/9 scholarships.

As we've discussed in other threads, we did not have a large 2017 senior class. Maybe roughly a dozen scholarship players. So it is those scholarships plus unused scholarships which will limit our recruiting...

Film, size, production all look really good, need that bigger receiver on the outside, sign him up!

@EagleTough,

Thanks for the inside scoop on Grissom. I knew there was no way he would still want to play here and have to sit out of Spring Ball.

I'm excited about a further insight that you can give us on the QB situation.

Appreciate it. Is it August yet?

Wow, maybe he is one of those 'shirts' for 2017.

This sounds crazy and almost apostasy to those who think Grissom is the next great EMU QB. He could redshirt behind Wiegers. If Wiegers is the real deal, as those in Iowa seem to think (I have nothing but very, very positive comments about him), Grissom can reshirt 2018 and compete for the open starting job in 2019.

I'm still confused: Was he in school fall semester? I looked in the student email directory and found Mackey but not Grissom. Maybe he started last week???

Dear Friends,
Looking at the roster listing, as of today 1-15-18, four players are not listed that were on the listing of the program versus Bowling Green. #24 D'Marcus Moon TE, #37 Alec Hulibarger RB, #61 Bret Lopez DL, # 86 Xavier Rice TE. I don't know if these were mentioned in any earlier discussion, but if not, would this help clarify the number of scholarships available. I also do not know if these are all scholarship players, or walk-ons, or preferred walk-ons.

Moon was the only one on scholarship, lets not forget we also lost the one offensive linemen who was on scholarship as well.

He has been in school. I stood 2 feet away from him on the field after the Western game.

I said this after the Ohio game. I talked to him. Trust the sources people. Sometimes they might be from the horses mouth.

Sorry I missed that post. I had a unbelievably busy weekend. I always trust good sources.

(Had a very busy weekend and a great trip. Left D.C. Saturday morning, went to the EMU/Ohio game, then to the Wings game afterwards. Sunday to church, Lions, dinner with cousins and then flew back to D.C.).

I did miss a lot of posting that weekend.

Frankly it appears EMU cannot resist adding yet another DL with 3 years to play and its a wise move stock piling talent in this area. Haney who already signed can play either OL or DL so the staff has some flexibility. Remember when we were constantly under the 85 scholie limit now it appears we don't have enough.

First choice would be Prince, could contribute right away, and be a matchup problem for anybody. Kainer could also be a good player, may need a redshirt year to develop, but he'd be ahead of alot of kids, coming from a high level Texas program.

Nice, let's get this kid. Hopefully he see's that our 3 starting WR's ALL just graduated. Obvious opportunity to start right away.

Man, if I were a JUCO player I'd look at, twice, the depth chart. As you indicate it doesn't get any better than this for a JUCO recruit.

We are lacking in terms of a tall WR.
