Funny story about this, but I don't know 100% if it is true. Sounds probable.....

The SVP of Real Estate was sick and tired of her commute from the far north west suburbs (like St. Michael or something like that) to downtown, and it was her and only her pushing the idea of the BC campus. Certainly she got the buy-in at the end, but from what I heard it wasn't so much a middle finger to Mpls as it was a vanity project for a C-suite'r. 03-lmfao

I'm downtown at City Center about once a quarter. I'm always surprised at how non-corporate HQ their entrance is - like you are walking by a Sport's Authority on the Skyway then have to know that those glass doors lead to to the main HQ entrance. Most certainly done on purpose, I'd have to imagine.

Looking at Amazon's HQ requirements it seems BC is too far from the airport and from city "culture." I believe that downtown makes perfect sense and there is no lack of empty tower space. If Amazon went over towards US Bank Stadium there is no lack of buildable space. You could then even take LRT between the HQs.

If this happens, the sale prices of SMpls bungalows is going to make a lot of sellers very happy. 03-lmfao

Hmmm maybe it's time I snap up an investment property while the buying is good. My tax break along with any rent I collect would cover it.

Just happened to have read this article yesterday on Sears/Kmart....

Grab something five blocks in either direction from the Blue line making sure you stay south of 38th Street.

It's gold Jerry, gold!

I thought they had closed most of their crappy locations...If Amazon wanted KMart would they have to buy all of Sears, or could they just buy KMart? (I don't follow this stuff)

we had one that eventually became crack land back in the '70s.....what a joke that one was....

sometime in the '80s, they moved to prime real estate (in the 'burg, that's 1M/acre) and shut down when wally world infiltrated our quiet arena....

whichever trigger they pull, I only see it as acquiring distribution points and/or to enhance branding....they'll quickly shut down the one's that don't fit their strategy....

RE: Amazon with a new acquisition Target?
Number of stores (approximately)
Kmart - 510
Sears - 594
Stages (Palais Royale, Peebles, Stage and Goody's) - 800
JC Penney - 895
Kohls - 1155
Target - 1828
Walmart - 6363

WM is still the big honcho. I'm surprised Target is that far behind them in terms of numbers of stores.

and since Amazon already owns Whole Foods KMart could greatly expand their grocery offerings. (just thinking out loud)
