How come we get ACC teams to visit our small FB stadium and can get them to visit a very nice basketball arena. FB has much a smaller OOC.

1. Recruiting
2. We are not a threat to beat them
3. Bruce Stewart

Because those teams want a presence in our market due to all the stud recruits coming through every year in basketball.

That's easy DaBig. Those teams know they will kick ODU's ass. Guaranteed win and get to play in front of a lot of alumni. Easy choice. These teams ain't coming to ODU to be nice.

Not so with Basketball. It's hard to win on the road anywhere. Heck, NC State just lost to Greensboro. At HOME.

I agree with all the above, but some teams in our state get a loaded schedule and have a lesser arena, poorer recruiting area, less tickets for the visiting fans and the visiting team has a much greater chance of picking up a L.

^This.

And we don't necessarily need a "loaded" schedule. Just one or two P5s would help.

We don't need UMES, Bowling Green, Fairfield, and Norfolk State all in the same season.

If you are talking about VCU, its because a road loss to VCU isn't embarrassing to the P5 team.

This is exactly right (although I was a bit embarrassed by our loss to them this year).

VCU’s schedule isn’t THAT much better than ODU’s most seasons. This season happened to have Texas and Virginia come to Richmond, but with the exception of the Cavs, the only time they can get a power program to come to their gym is because that team hired their coach away. Otherwise it’s generally mid-majors and buy games.

I’d bet a significant sum of money that Jeff would love to have 2 ACC teams come to our building every year. The name teams everyone wants to see here are not lining up to play us in the Ted, where we have historically been very good.

True, but we can always go 2 for 1, or 1 and a buyout. Winning road games against P5s is always good for the eye test.

Agreed, but fans will then complain that we don’t have enough good home games (and even 2 for 1s are difficult to find these days for programs like ours). I’m not particularly satisfied with our home schedule, but I’m intellectually honest enough to admit that putting together a schedule is much more difficult than I think it is.
I just want to make the tournament. Once we start doing that, I'll complain about the home opponents. Right now, that is pretty far down on the list.

We play them every year because all the travel money goes to the conference games. This is exactly what the AD said would happen when we joined CUSA. No more road games against Missouri or MVC schools. No more bracketbusters.

Aside from VCU, none of them are getting home games though. If we become an annual tournament team, we will get the home games as well.

So we can pay to travel to Bahamas or Charleston, but not other schools?

In fairness, Wood did say that.

Whichever CUSA team plays in the battle of the Atlantis doesn’t pay for travel expenses.

You'll have to ask Wood.

Charleston is as far away as our nearest conference opponent, FWIW. Not to mention, it's a much better value to fly to the Bahamas for multiple games than it is to fly to Boise, Idaho for one game.

Yes, Charleston will be one of the cheaper trips on their schedule (minus VCU, W&M, JMU)

RE: 2017 basketball
In the spirit of the holidays, i felt like taking a second to look at some of the positives of our season to date. We currently have an RPI in the mid-low 50's which i think most of us would have signed up for at this point before the season started. While our RPI will surely drop even with a win against NSU, we should still be in a respectable position barring a crazy loss. C-USA is at least ranked in the top half of conference rankings so there are opportunities for a couple good wins once we get in conference play.

While i know the schizophrenia of some of the games has been a bit frustrating, we are really just two bad halves (Temple and VCU) and one 2/3 court shot (W&M) from having a really good season going. I know an at large bid is nearly out of the question barring a crazy run through the conference regular season. However, i thought a little perspective on where we are right now would be fun.
