RE: Deion Lavender
After not playing, I suspect he is contemplating transferring. And we left the door open for him to change his mind.
But, we will see in the next few games.

Just reading between the lines.

RE: Deion Lavender
A week ago he retweeted Eric Bledsoe's infamous "I don't want to be here" quote... it has since been deleted. He's also tweeted a couple other cryptic quotes. My guess is he's leaving (or attempting to leave).

We were hoping he'd fit into Rob Brown's role, but that never happened.

All the best to him if he doesn't return, but good for all of us if he does.

Since he redshirted when he transferred here, wouldn't he be only able to play one semester if he transferred right now, none at all if he plays a second semester game?

RE: Deion Lavender
He should have concentrated on his mid-range game. I think he could do well with it...

Yes, which is why it makes little sense to transfer now. He could finish the year and then get another full year as a grad transfer. My guess is they told him to take some time and think it over.
I thought his outside shot would develop but it didn't.

The UAB basketball twitter feed had a pic from today of many of the players and Deion is in it.
We'll see if he is on the bench wed. night and plays. It may have just been a family matter.

RE: Deion Lavender
I've always liked Deion with his size to help rebound and above average ability to finish around the rim.

He just has a terrible shooting motion and isn't a great dribbler.

Personally, I'd rather try to keep him around instead of some of the guys at the end of the bench that play cheerleader.

I'll call Ehsan about it tomorrow and also mentor him on scheduling with all that strategery from the other thread.

If you don't call in to talk to him your not a true fan and your opinion is worthless.

A family member of his tweeted at the main uab basketball account the other day during a game complaining about his playing time. I hope he can work it out and will stay. The talent is there he is just fighting what's between the ears.

Sorry but I disagree with your comment. You do not have to call in to talk to him to be a true fan.

For him to be on the floor more, he has too have some semblance of an offensive game. He is athletic and I think he is an above average ball handler. He just needs some confidence.

Coach has to put the best players on the floor. Nate & Jalen are better long range shooters so unless Deion is just a lockdown defender, its hard to justify minutes for him. But, I bet we will need him when conference rolls around with foul trouble and injuries.

Still, its tough because I'm sure he came here expecting more minutes.
But his outside shot was terrible last year and he hasn't shot it much this year.
Did he put the time in over the summer?
So Deion is like a 3rd option at the 1,2 and 3. And Hurtado is even further behind so redshirting him is the smart move.
If we recruit well, we will always have guys who are not happy with their minutes.

RE: Deion Lavender
The team did a community service event yesterday and Lavender was in the pictures. Also, they tweeted a picture of Mike Slive talking to the team in the locker room and he was in the picture.
