I think it's a good idea... Having one game on the schedule that is sold out is not a bad idea for either school. Even if its only 25,000. They could give season ticket holders first option to buy, which incentivizes being a season ticket holder. What if the game was on a Monday (Labor Day)? We could have the state to ourselves.

Both programs should strike while the iron is hot.

& it would be a good yearly opening game at a new football facility in a few years.

I love this idea, but for one year only. If it's just one year, then I don't mind giving up a home game and only having 5 in a season. I don't know why some of you prefer playing in a stadium that's too big and has empty seats. A sellout for once, would be awesome.(you could even charge a premium for the tickets) The other games can be home and home. Make it at least a three game contract. I'm pretty sure coach will not turn down a game in Montgomery. He's probably looking at the bigger picture. (Recruiting)

Hopefully by 2021 Tulane will be a conference game.

This is different. I like it. I also like that it would be a hit ticket. Might actually help drive season ticket sales.

I'd rather watch game with 50k-60k at Legion Field.

in addition let's kill the hoops series after the current contract runs out next season. If we are going to play some state teams let's do Samford H&H, JSU 2 for 1 USA H&H, and UNA a buy game.

Why not just have a "state" D1 holiday tournament instead? It can rotate between the major cities with a governors trophy or something similar.

When have we had more than 46K for a home game? Troy simply does not bring enough to push us to 50-60K.

Baby steps. We will get there one day.

Is the Campton Bowl bigger than Troy's Stadium?

Would rather play South Alabama if we're going to play in CrapTon Bowl.

Not really. The idea isn't a home & home but a somewhat neutral site instead.

I'd like for the neutral site to have at least 35,000 seats there but I don't know of any that aren't in Auburn, Tuscaloosa, or Legion Field.

The Crampton Bowl has had money pumped into it by the city and is a nice stadium. Montgomery did a better job with it compared to what our city has done with Legion. Legion needs to be demolished.

Crampton Bowl hosted B'ham University School's 1957 game against Catholic High of Montgomery. BUS had 21 players on its squad, both QBs were 8th graders (one was Tom Krebs) and our coach was Rufus Perry. We lost 72-0 only because they were nice to us, and they only played their regulars if we reached the 50 on offense. I don't remember that stadium being new then. The reason Legion Field is still in existence is found in Post #34 above.

LOL.
I love it. Did the stadium look like the picture below back in the day? It was kinda crappy back when I played high school ball. But like UABs campus, they started upgrading after I left. First they added turf. I remember the grass would be dirt and mud by the end of the season with all the games the high schools played there. They demoed the end zone, so it's no longer a horse shoe and you can no longer cross over to the other side. New, press box with suites. Updated pavilion areas. New locker rooms and a multipurpose facility in the end zone for the high schools. It's an upgrade over legion field.

the vast majority of our fan base lives in the Birmingham area. having a home game in Montgomery will not help ticket sales.

Shouldn't expanding the fanbsse beyond Birmingham be a priority. If people will drive from Birmingham to Tuscaloosa to a game, they'll drive from Montgomery to Birmingham.
