RE: HCMH signed up for 10 more years
I had a feeling after this would happen after the Norfolk state game. I said this before. His emotion towards sharp and this team was something you can make up. I was sold back in September. Yes I know money buys but tell me another coach anywhere that has shon such emotion and commitment to a school. We have a winner.
Dream scenario. Fine print of deal. Leading us to a G5 conference and top 25 FBS.

Just a phenomenal job well done by Jeff Bourne to get this done, kudos to him and his staff!

I know this is going to sound like "JMU can do no right", but isn't this an odd time to be distracting the coach with contract negotiations?
Maybe MH knows what a tough game we have coming up and didn't want a potential loss to lower his market value, so was eager to get the signing out of the way so he can concentrate on winning this weekend.

10 years sees his boys grow up in a stable environment at one of the greatest places on earth.
I appreciate his integrity, commitment, loyalty and balance. Mike Houston and JMU are a great fit for each other. His commitment to his family which includes his team and staff shows 100 young men every year what it means to be a man.
What a role model and mentor he is. Thank you Mike Houston and JMU. Very pleased.

I am absolutely certain that a move up was a part of the deal. I said earlier in this thread that MH may very well be excited to be the man to move us up and the pay increases that that will mean. He did say recently that coaching JMU was the best job outside P5, meaning he looked at G5 jobs and thought JMU was a better opportunity. I think that is right. I think we will quickly be at the top of any FBS conference we join.
Whatever it took to sign MH for such a long-term commitment, many kudos to Bourne, King, and all involved!

Great News!!! I, like many of you, have been very impressed with not only his coaching but his seemingly high level of integrity and sincerity. Hopefully this will mean many more years of exciting football!

Go back and listen to his W&M conference and his admiration for what coach Laycock has done and his dedication to their program, despite having other opportunities. That is when I started getting my hopes up. He just seems to be that type of guy. Great day for JMU!!!

Probably part of the intentional timing on the part of JMU's admin.

Yes, and maybe even with a loss. The future is very bright for JMU football.
I was thinking something even more personal "Thank you Houston!"

congrats JB, King, Alger on this one
no mention of the money at jmusports.com - but hell of a quote...
"James Madison is a special place. Amanda, our boys and I want to be here and consider this home," Houston said. "JMU approached me in in the second half of the regular season to discuss an extended contract. During negotiations, there was significant interest from multiple FBS programs. Throughout the process, JMU was proactive in wanting to make a long-term commitment while ensuring that our staff could remain intact. I've turned down opportunities at the FBS level, and I did it because I believe in James Madison University. I believe in the leadership of Jeff Bourne, Senior Vice President Charlie King and President Jonathan Alger. I believe in their vision for our university and our athletics programs. I also believe in our student-athletes, everyone in athletics who supports us and the passionate fan base that cheers for us. I am committed to ensuring that the JMU football program is one that is a reflection of our outstanding institution. I'm committed to staying here because JMU is different."
This is just a great move by everyone involved - I am ecstatic!
This is the part I find most interesting. I don't think HCMH is a sucker who would just believe any lies the admin tells him. I do think this is proof that when a good opportunity comes along, we will take it.

Excellent news for the program, I forsee several, game day, NC appearances and wins in the coming years leading up to eventual ACC invite...well ACC invite is my personal wish I threw in there...regardless we should celebrate, this is great not only for the program but student-athletes having a fantastic mentor, coach, friend leading by example and that is priceless!!!

This has to be a shot in the arm for team moral too. I can see a JMU team that now has new purpose for another national championship.
