Finebarum has ALWAYS hated the Tigers for decades!!! I am shocked that he even gave CMN the interview time. Always talks down our city and program.

Yep, it's like he likes to take a jab at Memphis whenever he can. Instead of talking positive about his old home town, he's typically negative.
Isn't he a UT Vol grad? I've heard treat his university the same.

Did you guys miss the part where a P5/SEC apologist admitted that none of them want to schedule Memphis any longer? It's easy to sit here and say we should be playing this and that. Much different to actually get them to agree. We are building a home base of season ticket holders. To do that, we need minimum of 6, preferably 7 home games a year. Getting P5's outside of buy away games are almost impossible now. And an upgraded away SOS gets you nothing. It won't improve our chances of getting in the CFP (0%). And it won't improve our chances of getting the access bowl - win the conference, don't lose OOC and the SOS doesn't matter.
What we are doing is working. Stay the course.

If TV would make it a primetime game on Saturday (like ESPN2), then Boise State/Colorado State would be intriguing.

Try to add a Colorado, Iowa state, Indiana, Virginia, Maryland, Oregon, Oregon state
I didn't check the Houston, temple, Navy, ect..... schedules, but I'm sure they all have better ooc schedules than we do
We have a scheduling strategy that is working. Schedule one FCS, 1 G4 that is a toss up, 1 G4 that is a given, and 1 traditionally tough opponent.
South Alabama is a good program. Just keep winnings d putting a quality product on the field. It's going to be a lot harder scheduling the traditional "powers" as we continue to advance. We just need to average 8-9 wins a year and wait on tv contracts to shuffle.
If you only play one school per year from the top 5 conferences, your best hope is to finish 10th in the national polls, just like UCF.
Why not push the envelope? Memphis landed on the football map by going to UCLA and losing. If we can take down two of the big boys in a season and run the table, then they'll be asking how we can be left out of the national championship discussion.
Dream big.
Not saying you're wrong, but acknowledge the inherent gamble.
You don't know where you'll be in five years. If for whatever reason things turn south, ala ECU this year, people will be screaming "Why are we playing traditional P5 powers?! We ought to be playing teams we can beat!!" I distinctly remember hearing Tiger fans over the decades say that they need to be playing the Arky States, Tenn Techs, etc. The Tigers schedule now is the smart way to go, and needs to be recognized as such. Plus, getting the likes of Ole Miss, etc. to come to the Liberty Bowl is only going to get harder from here on out.

FCS games most likely.
That home and away with Georgia State was a terrible idea. Go play Georgia Tech if you want to recruit in Atlanta.
The ULM series is worse IMO.
Oh, Lord. You’re right.

We actually have an SEC school scheduled over 5 of the next 6 years. On the year we have no SEC school on the schedule, we are at PURDUE from the Big 10. One SEC school per year is about par for our program. Here is the Out of Conference football schedule through 2023.

Well, it's right, for now. A few years ago they went to Auburn and won. They were a strong team for a couple of seasons, then the coach got hired away I think. They also had a really good QB for those strong seasons.
If we had made a pre-arrangement with Troy State a season or 2 ago, people would have cried, but when the game would have happened this year, a year in which they beat Louisiana State, it would have been seen as a good OOC matchup.
I'm on board with adding more of the big conference teams. If Norvell is going to be here for a multi-year run and can get roster stability with players for his scheme (QB), I wouldn't mind 3 or even 4. I doubt if we could schedule 3 even if we totally "sold out" to do so.

No one is saying bring in Notre Dame and USC. Just don't shove Louisiana-Monroe and Georgia State down our throats.

And that's about as good as we can expect. Get a P5 here every other year, and we're doing better than most.

Who do you propose as realistic home-home, and tell me the benefits?
I can tell you benefits to Ga St and LA-Monroe:
1. They provide built-in recruiting trips in key areas - building brand and actual free visits.
2. They are winnable away games that will not interfere with the goal of getting the Access slot.
3. They do not charge us anything to come to our place and take their whipping.

Florida Atlantic.
Baylor.
Louisville.
MTSU.
I'd take all four over Ga St and Monroe. All four would play us. All four would be winnable. MTSU doesn't give a great recruiting boost but the others do.

You really think Louisville would? They are booked for the next 4 years and the only away OOC gamesare UK and Notre Dame. They also would absolutely increase the risk of losing and missing the Peach.
Baylor might, but they're booked for the next 6 years. And they also increase the risk of losing.
MTSU and FAU move the needle zero more than Monroe or Atlanta. FAU is a flash in the pan as long as Kiffin is there. By the time you get on their schedule, he gone.

I think Louisville would, yes. If I'm Petrino though, I wouldn't want to play us. Didn't realize they were booked though. In that case, I suspect neither would add us afterwards. I think we could hang with them, though. Might even be a 2 or 3 point favorite at the LB. FAU will fade once Kiffin leaves. But to say they don't move the needle more than Monroe or Georgia St. is wrong. If we're going specifically on recruiting standpoint, I guess we are since you said Atlanta, then sure.
