Of course some didn't vote for him simply because he is black. I'm sure there were some who didn't vote for Hilary because she's a woman. Heck, the DNC didn't want Carter to get nominated simply because he was from the south.

This are all good points. There is always going to be a segment of society that doesn't vote for someone because they are one thing or another.

I don't believe the majority of Republicans are racist. I also don't think Trump is a racist.... although I do think he has inherent bias... Which if we're being honest... A lot of us do. Myself included. But I do think Trump and his cohorts are using racial undertones and dog whistles to play to the crowd that IS explicitly racist. I'm not sure how large that group of people are, but I'm willing to bet that it isn't insignificant.

Well, I grew up in a small rural town in Ohio as well. (pop. 5,000) In fact, considering where you went to University you obviously drove through it often - I still live in what could be considered a smaller rural area.

Have I ever heard that word used - of course. But I can tell you it isn't common. Additionally, Obama's policies aren't looked at favorably in almost any rural area in the United States, not just Ohio.

There are some racists anywhere and everywhere, but please explain how Obama could ever win the presidency if the majority of white people are racist? The answer is he couldn't...

But the very day to day hyperbole that you complain about is also being done by Trump himself.

When he tweets about Muslim immigrants, when he tweets about "illegals". When he tweets about shootings in Chicago.

So while you complain about the MSM hyping racism on TV, our POTUS is doing exactly the same thing on Twitter.

What say you about that?

Agree with this statement 100%.

When Obama was elected, I even had people within my own family that were making racist statements about it.

Why won't you just come clean and admit these alleged family members were all named Fitbud?

If its a town along 33, I believe I know which one you're talking about. And I agree with you. I stated I don't believe the majority of Republicans, nor white people are racist. Although, I do think there is a not insignificant population of people who are.

And I'm not saying I heard the N-word on a daily basis or anything. I did hear it A LOT in high school. Granted, it was coming from immature teenagers who now-a-days probably feel badly about it and wouldn't say it again.

But there were moments in my adult life back in my hometown where grown men would refer to the local high school's black runningback as a N*****. I remember a drunk guy at a bar in Mansfield near the steel mill opine about how much better it would be if whites only married whites and blacks only married blacks. I remember a guy at the American Legion in town bitching about J.T. Barrett saying he wished OSU had a white quarterback instead.

What I'm saying is that I think most people aren't racist, but there has been enough experiences in my life that I know that it still very much exists and there still is an uncomfortable amount of people who still are blatantly racist.

Oh, I'm not saying I have never heard it. But think about it.......those you describe are all old men now - most probably in retirement. There will always be some people that are racist - both ways, but as time moves on, I believe it is less and less an issue.

The media plays it up for all they are worth because it garners clicks - they use it as a money maker. But I bet that for the majority of regular people, they interact on a day to day basis and it's not something that they see........ I could be wrong as I can only go on what I see, but what I normally see are cordial, polite interactions.........

yes, there's also lots of examples of blacks saying things like "you must hire a black person" for this job, black owned businesses being awarded contracts simply to meet minority quotas, etc

It works both ways.

Ah yes. The "there's good people on both sides" argument.

What I'm saying is that I think most people aren't racist, but there has been enough experiences in my life that I know that it still very much exists and there still is an uncomfortable amount of people who still are blatantly racist.

yes, there's also lots of examples of blacks saying things like "you must hire a black person" for this job, black owned businesses being awarded contracts simply to meet minority quotas, etc

It works both ways.

Ah yes. The "there's good people on both sides" argument.

Trump's America
