Arkansas will be lucky to be second or third in the SEC west once every 4-5 years. Most years they'll be battling for 5th place in the west with MSU and Mississippi.
SEC east he would have a better shot only battling with Georgia and Florida, but most years would be battling for third with South Carolina and Missouri.
In fact, if he's smart he would not go to the SEC unless it was to Florida, Alabama, Auburn, LSU or A&M.
So, just hang tight Norvell, some year soon the perfect job will open up, its just not happening this year.
(you think he fell for it?)
Programs is the SEC West with better resources than Arkansas
1. Alabama
2. LSU
3. Auburn
4. Texas A&M
5. Ole Miss - even
Arkansas is arguably the 5th best program in their division. The idea of them finishing 2-3 in the division every 4-5 years is a big time stretch. Ole Miss, State and Arkansas are who they are... teams capable of making conference championship runs once a decade, maybe.
It is a great job to make big money for 5-6 years and then get canned.
Arkansas left the SWC with visions of sugar plumbs and pumped up pride, believing they would finally receive the respect due them. However it just hasn't worked out that way. They now have less respect than BasIard child at a family reunion.

If it was me and I had this train rolling along, the program is as good a shape as it is, and what's coming down the pike in the near future, why would I want to leave and go start all over again? Why would I want to go put that kind of pressure on myself. CMN has a good thing going, so it boils down to is his ego satisfied?
I would agree, BUT...the assistant coaches who helped CMN build that machine can in many cases TRIPLE their current salary. Dickey made $275K last year. OC's in the SEC can make triple that.
And, if CMN loses those assistants then the machine might break.

Because for most coaches, it's all about money and ego.
I will play devil's advocate some.
What if memphis tigers go 6-6 next season? We lose a miller, fergurson, and some other damn good seniors. Our schedule will be at least a little tougher in 2018 compared to this season. This could happen.
He will still have a job at memphis but his seat will warm up some. He will no longer be the golden boy who has p5 schools showing interest with their nice contract$$$$.
I guess in short, I am saying this window of opportunity may or may not last a long time for him. So, that is a reason he would want to leave and 'strike while the iron is hot'.
Of course, I hope he stays. Go Tigers!
lol 6-6 at Memphis doesn't get your seat warm
It did for Tommy West....

Talk about revisionist history...
Tommy West went this way-
7-5
2-10
7-6
6-7
2-10
He was 12 games UNDER .500 at Memphis. He didn’t get fired for the two 7-6 and 6-7 years. It was clear he was slipping in recruiting. There were other things also. His seat got warm for going 15-23 over a 3 year span and going 2-10 AFTER that.

Who is the new AD? I just can't believe Norvell would go there without knowing who the new AD will be.

Yeah, I was afraid of this for a while. And it had gotten too quiet. All these names floating around and Norvell never one of them. Oh well - I was ready for it all year anyway.
