RE: So who is going to run the CFPB tomorrow
I guess it shouldn't surprise me that Trump loyalists are acting every bit as bratty as their beloved president. But there are many, many people besides me who are disgusted by his latest move.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/po...story.html

Here are some choice quotes from the story.

'The most recent example is the chaos at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, an agency established in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis as a watchdog against abuses. Perhaps the bureau's best-known action to date was levying a $100 million fine against Wells Fargo Bank for opening hundreds of thousands of deposit and credit card accounts without the customers' knowledge or consent. All told, the bureau has saved nearly $12 billion for consumers.

This record, according to Trump, is a "total disaster."

Trump claimed in a weekend tweet that financial institutions "have been devastated" by the CFPB. That is nonsense. The much more likely reason for his criticism of the bureau is that it was established while Barack Obama was president. Trump has been unable to establish a proper legacy of his own, so he is intent on erasing his predecessor's.'

'The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, by contrast, has no master. In its 41-year history — it was founded during the Gerald Ford administration — the office established to advise presidents on scientific matters never has gone so long without a leader. From 135 staffers under Obama, it has been slashed to 45.

Perhaps this sort of thing was to be expected from Trump, who has described climate change as a Chinese hoax. The thing is, however, refusing to believe in science doesn't make you immune from its effects. Anyone with doubts about the law of gravity should think twice before jumping out of a second-story window.'

There's more but I'll just end with the columnist's closing paragraph.

'Future presidents will have to restore what Trump and his team are casually destroying. Ignorance and petulance, rather than reason, now reign.'

Go ahead and keep hurling insults at me if it makes you feel bigger. I can take it - my signature keeps me going.

Where did the $100M fine go? Why is this relevant?

So you're in favor of a government bureaucracy accountable to no one?

CFPB’s Civil Penalty Fund.

Congress established the Civil Penalty Fund through the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 to provide compensation to consumers who have been harmed by violations of federal consumer financial protection law.

It's relevant because Trump will be gutting the agency. Big banks will be happy though.

I'm gonna guess most right wing posters were born after wedlock.....

btw, in proven terms, global warming has nothing to do with the causality you're implying.....that ranks right there with China building empty cities to drive up the price of raw mat'ls and profit from such.....

back in my corpshite 'murica days, we called it a surcharge that was quickly installed in contracts based on that rapidly changing enviro....

wtfe.....nobody is hurling insults at you personally.....we're simply enjoying the #unhinging with popcorn in hand.....

one of these days, your party might have a chance to figure out how money fundamentally works outside of slush funds and all the bs it has taken to drive the dnc machine built in china....

however, I seriously doubt it....you guys are pegged on "E" and there isn't a charging station for another 1k miles.....

#enjoy

The less power we give to unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats, the better off we are.

This was an agency designed to be staffed by representatives of one political party only, and basically answerable to nobody. How that could possibly be a good thing is beyond even anyone's wildest imagination.

it's shocking how the industrialists and banking created all you currently enjoy......

I'm hardly the biggest fan of central banking for the whole, but that's the system at this point....

your party was the one in control when the latest ponzi scheme was unleashed (housing collapse) that profited from that failure....

or do they not teach that at freebie U in youston???

multiple edits due to not being able to literally see (and it's not why you think)

Amen!

There's two groups of people who want bureaucrats to have power:

1. Bureaucrats

and

2. People who don't regularly deal with bureaucrats

Secret Donors Were Financing Leandra English’s Lawsuit Against Trump

Trying to grab the rightful power of the presidency and costing taxpayers money to have to defend against this illegitimate attack. Trump won in court today. Dems made to be fools again. So easy....

Quote:Secret donors are financing the lawsuit against President Donald Trump and White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney over who runs the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

Deepak Gupta, the lead lawyer of a boutique law firm that launched its suit on behalf of CFPB acting director Leandra English, confirmed in a CNBC interview that English is not paying for his hourly fees, but rather unknown anonymous donors are.

Gupta refused to name who is funding the lawsuit, making it difficult to ascertain the motives, intentions, or any special interests of those underwriting the case.

Gupta runs a blog with my brother.

http://pubcit.typepad.com/

They're the 2nd and 3rd coordinators listed on the main page. I used to do publicity for Richard Alderman's books years ago (he's also listed as a contributor). I can ask my brother who financed Gupta's work. I did ask him about the all Democrats in CFPB story and he said he doubts that is true. Yes it is true that CFPB employees have only donated to Democratic politicians but he rightly pointed out that isn't the same as saying the organization is exclusively made up of Democrats. The CFPB has 150 employees or so; chances are a few of them are moderates or independents who just haven't contributed to Republican politicians.

The point was that the board members could all have been appointed by democrat presidents. And come on, if all donations have been made to democrats (and I'm relying on you for that), exactly what do you think that says about the political lean of the rank and file? It was a pretty blatant attempt to politicize regulation of a major industry.

Remember, it came out of Dodd-Frank, which was itself a highly politicized attempt to "regulate" the banking industry. The two named co-authors should probably be in prison for their roles in bringing about the home mortgage crisis, not writing the bill that is supposed to solve the problem.

Andrew McCarthy writes:
"Some legal questions are tough. The question of who should lawfully be considered the acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is not one of them. President Trump unquestionably has the power to name Mick Mulvaney (his Senate-confirmed budget director) to the position, and he has done so. The lawsuit seeking to block this appointment, filed by CFPB's deputy director, Leandra English, who hopes to take the job herself, is frivolous and offensive...."

I guess we know who will be running it tomorrow, huh?

Who funded the plaintiff's silly, spurious lawsuit? Let me guess.

The Trump-appointed judge rules for Trump-appointed CFPB (part-time) acting head Mulvaney after DOJ memo written by former lawyer for payday lender being sued by CFPB finds for Mulvaney who received $1.2 mill in financial sector contributions.

More draining the swamp? Hardly.

But congrats on King Trump's latest maneuver. Again as I've said over and over, Trump is bizarro Obama. He is identical to Obama in every way (starting with their egos and dictator ways) but with a completely different political agenda. If Obama was such a poor president, why is Trump borrowing his playbook every step along the way?

I don't see how following CFPB legal counsel makes Trump a "King"

Its terrible to ask someone to follow the explicit language of a law. But Im not a progressive and always want to get an 'enhanced interpretation' to fit my need de jour....

But blame Trump, the DOJ, The CFPB GC, the judge, and everyone else for a 'fix' when the plain language doesnt fit your agenda. Very endearing.
