Wilkie, no way in hell Norvell goes to TN. Even if it wasn't a flaming dumpster of a program right now.

If Arky offers, he is gone. 50-50 chance of an offer. If A&M offers, he is gone. Probably no chance of an offer.

I hope you keep your coach. And I hope you beat UCF, 04-cheers

Same here, lol. But I'm old enough and have seen so many wins, losses and coaching changes, that I'm okay if he leaves. Everybody has to do their own thing.

I would rather lose a coach b/c he's good and we are successful, than be stuck with one who sucks and has a high buyout.

I don't think its clear that Memphis losses its coach this season. If they don't, Memphis would be clear favorites to win AAC next year.

It's going to depend on Arky. Ole Miss made inquiries about him, and he apparently turned them down. So did Strong, supposedly.

Nobody is going to take the Ole Miss job with what they are facing. That's why they saw the light and hired their interim line coach alum. They also appear to be the school that put out the false rumors about Norvell that circulated this past weekend.

TN isn't hiring a Memphis coach. Too embarrassing for them, and that program is another dumpster fire Norvell would decline. Tee Martin. Almost the same situation as Ole Miss.

A&M is a job Norvell would take, but they are fixed on Fisher, and if that falls through, I doubt Norvell is next in line.

So we're back to Arkansas. Until Auburn screwed up and beat both GA and Bama, Malzahn was going to Arky, but now, he's staying at Auburn.

I have no idea if Norvell is their main target, or not. Other names have been mentioned, along with his. He is playing it very low key, and making an attempt to keep his team focused. Doesn't seem to be an issue for us at all. Nothing like Fuente leaving 2 years ago.

So we'll just have to wait and see.

Ha ha, you’re dreaming! UCF returns virtually all of their skill players, we might win the ship back to back if we win it this year in spite of all the coaching distractions.

UCF has this thing about going from Access Bowl to 0-12...so we'll see how it goes. 07-coffee3

I have to agree.

Memphis will be in the mix, but we're losing our QB and some key skill players whereas UCF has their QB coming back.

I don't doubt Memphis could win the AAC next year and expect to be in the mix, but all things being equal, the Knights would be favored in my book.

RE: Next Memphis Coach
And to echo the above, if we lose Norvell, we'll get a top notch assistant and keep the train rolling.

A program is more than a coach and most of the AAC should take solace in that.

Memphis, UCF, USF, Navy, Houston, etc have all been strong recently and through some coaches. Any team in our conference can compete if they support the staff and get a good coach. You don't need a god, just a good coach and institutional support.

Memphis will be fine with or without Norvell.

And that would be true of many AAC programs. This is clearly the best G5 conference right now and all of our programs can stay strong, new coaches or no.

Meanwhile, Arky has decided to hire 2 separate search firms, one for AD and one for FB HC. Their search without an AD is leaving them split into too many factions.

You are way behind the times. That rumor was officially debunked as BS. No gambling problem. Ole Miss put out the rumor hoping to run off other suitors until they could make up their mind.

But Norvell screwed them up by saying no to Ole Miss when they inquired.

I for one will enjoy it if we keep Norvell for another year or two. I will also enjoy watching him beat the brakes off of SMU..................again.

me too. I said I couldn't wait until we hung 50+ on SMWho again...Memphis did a little better than that.
