Alabama State game thread
Mick said post game he expected flat. Have really only practiced once since the tournament. 2 days off and light day Friday, so yesterday was the only real practice. Said they didn't even prepare for these guys and just wanted it to be a practice and get everyone involved. Spent lots of time on situations and late game stuff.

I felt the exact opposite. Thought they were really solid almost without even trying to do anything special and constantly running odd lineups. Feel good about what's coming up.

I thought we played fine. Defense was stout, didn't turn the ball over, hit some 3's. Didn't play all that fast on offense, but if Mick was working on situational stuff, that might explain that.

I got bored with the game by halftime. I think some of the team were also.

Now we will start to see what UC has at what they will need to work on.

Jarron Cumberland looked like it was a 6 am practice. I think they are itching to play a real team.

Pleased with the game under the circumstances of returning from a tournament. Ten guys played between 13 and 23 minutes. AND, they ultimately evened out the rebound count with the Oompa Loompas 03-lmfao

Overall, I think they performed well considering they knew they had a win going into this one. Had Cumberland had his usual game this would have been a 40 point blowout. I believe UC will need his 3's to be dropping Saturday (We know they always do for X against UC).

Not too shabby winning by 32 pts when your starters played less than 23 minutes. Washington only logged 13 minutes. JKeith Williams, Trevor Moore and company have been getting quality minutes these first seven games.

No matter how UC plays or how good their record, they’ll never get a good seed as long as they keep scheduling trash like ala st and Coppin. One win last night and their RPI drops from 50 to 80.

The big issue is not the OOC (nearly everyone snacks on the Coppin State's and Alabama States' of the world), it is the conference situation. The middle to lower tier of this conference is horrendous, with bad losses OOC to DII and FCS level schools.

What's more, we couldn't schedule 13 "name" schools OOC if we wanted to. A lot of schools won't schedule us home and home (see Michigan who backed out of a deal). Playing most of our OOC games on the road is really not realistic for us.

Seems to me this is a lot more of a reason to not follow the RPI in November than anything else.

I think conference performance hurts us way more than anything else. It doesn't really help to schedule nothing but rpi 1-100 teams and lose several games, if winning most of the conference slate means absolutely nothing. What's our incentive for scheduling that way?
If the conference would get it's **** together, we wouldn't have to deal with this stupid issue.

I disagree. 300+ RPI teams are absolute anchors to your resume and do nothing good. I don't even think they help your team play better, as they are so bad teams gaim bad habits playing against them. The key is replacing these teams with 150-250 RPI teams from the MAC, OVC, Horizon, etc. like Huggins used to do. For some reason Mick is infatuated with these So-Con and SWAC teams that are terrible.

So you would be happy playing Oakland (MI) and Illinois State home and home? We can't afford to buy them out of their home games.

Maybe some time a one for one, but probably more 2 for 1s. Some how during the BH years we alsways had teams like this for one game series, did we get poorer? The other thing Mick can do is do some research to see what teams are expected to win their conference. He just needs to get a little more creative to avoid the 10 or so 250+ RPI games he schedules every year.

Why would any of these schools agree to a 2 for 1?

Scheduling to manage RPI is a game everyone is trying to play and the schools with the money are able to do that. UC was ahead of the curve back in the day
