If we win the MACC game and have an 11-2 record and get sent out to Idaho to play a home game for Boise, then I say we split the MAC. Go independent, I don’t care.

Wonder what would happen if someone said "no thanks?" Game isn't going to hold much interest for me as a "fan" if the team doesn't have a chance to play a P5. Not interested in an ordering of dick size of the G5s. But I imagine it's a decision about fan base. Most really good G5s are not going to bring the crowd of even a rediculously poor P5 that just made the cut-off.

I'm of the mind, let the seniors decide. At some point, some would probably prefer to be home for the holidays.

If we win the championship, don't we get some say in the bowl we want? Can we turn down an invitation to get another one? Anyone know how the MAC determines which bowl we go to? Since they f'ed us a few years back by putting Ohio in, I'd love to see us screw them over by refusing Boise and Mobile and taking Bahamas (now on 12/22 instead of 12/24) to get a likely win over a CUSA team. Maybe they could change it to be Marshall who is shown as going to Frisco Bowl to play Houston... CUSA sucks, but they have better bowl game tie ins. MAC bowl tie ins are getting progressively worse.

From SBNation:
Other MAC tie-ins are Camelia Bowl in Montgomery, Ala on 12/16 (shows NIU playing Arkansas State) ; the referred to Potato Bowl in Boise on 12/22 vs. Mountain West team (shows Akron playing Wyoming with Boise State going to Las Vegas Bowl); Bahamas Bowl 12/22 vs. CUSA (site I looked at has Ohio playing FIU), the Dollar General bowl in Mobile has us playing Appy State - 2 years in a row? Says CMU will go to Ford Field (now the Quick Lane Bowl) to fill another conference slot from Big 10 to play Duke. Means Western Michigan is left out this time around although eligible. That does make sense.

WTF? it seems like winning the MAC is a detriment to your bowl choices. Mobile is a great town for a game, but it is tied to the Sun Belt conference (and the MAC). I would likely go, but would prefer to be in Bahamas. At leas the game is on the 22nd and leaves plenty of time to get home before Xmas Eve.

The Quick Lane Bowl (Ford Field) would guarantee a P5 opponent from the ACC or big 10... Not a desirable bowl destination, but close for fans and families of most of the players .

That was moved up in status and is now the Citrus Bowl (the fruits demanded diversity) played on Jan. 1. Would be nice if the MAC was still tied in to that Bowl...

I agree the Quick Lane is the best option. All those otherbowls will provide zero national interest. I care more about best match up agaisnt a P5 school. Destiantion is secondary.

If the Rockets end up in Mobile, which in all likelihood may happen, it may be against Troy who has a very high powered offense like ours and ESPN might want to showcase that kind of a matchup ...
The Dollar General Bowl would almost be a home game for Troy... :banghead:

RE: Bowl projections 2017-18
Assuming we stomp Akron next weekend, most likely we play troy in Mobile, which would be a good matchup and probably pretty well attended bowl game, if not the sexiest bowl possibility.

Looks like ACC will fill their spot in the Detroit Bowl with Florida St, Duke or Virginia. Big ten looks to be 1 or 2 bowl teams short this year for their smaller Texas bowl tie in and the Detroit Bowl, depends on if they send a team to the corporate playoff payoff thing. MAC probably puts a team in Detroit as we are the primary backup, but i don't think a MAC champ has ever maneuver into that game since it changed from the original MAC Champ-BIG10 matchup.

Ohio in Bahamas

I think NIU's defense vs Troy's run game would be a good battle in Mobile. They might prefer NIU who hasn't been there since 2012 and is the MAC's 2nd best bowl team, imo, than Toledo who has been to Alabama 2 of the last 3 years and didn't travel well to Montgomery last year.

This year most leagues can fill their bowl slots so not much wiggle room and some 6-6 teams and possibly a couple 7-5 will stay home. I could see Akron missing a bowl at 7-6.
---update----
Latest projections have 6 bowls with a P5 team but no eligible tie-in team. there are likely 3 bowl eligible P5 teams (from ACC and PAC12) with no bowl tie in spots. so, expect those 3 teams to fill half of those open 6 bowls. that leaves 3 extra bowl openings vs a P5 opponent possible. 3 of these 6 games below. Utah will probably fill one of the Texas bowl openings. MAC will probably fill Detroit. This could change if Big10 and Big 12 play themselves out of the playoff payoff in their conf champ games. Will still be the same math but a couple of these lower bowls will get filled and couple others won't.
Birmingham 12/23 vs AAC #2/3 team
Detroit 12/26 vs a 6-6 ACC team
Dallas 12/26 vs a 6-6 Big 12 team from Texas
Shreveport 12/27 vs a 6-6 ACC team
Santa Clara 12/27 vs a winning PAC12 team
Houston 12/27 vs a Big12 team

Expect NIU in Boise (or maybe Camella) vs loser of Fresno-Boise MWC title game (yeah, they play again 2 weeks in a row), although I think NIU's defense vs Troy's run game would be a good battle in Mobile.

I would love a Toledo/Florida State matchup in Detroit... Granted, not much of a destination, but more respect would be garnered nationally by knocking off a perennial power like FSU over beating a Sun Belt team ...

Has Toledo ever played a PAC12 team?

A game against a P5, I can't imagine happening if that bowl can't get attendance, which all I can think of means, in Detroit against a big name P5 having had a poor seasonnor on their home ground. I can imagine a big name team wanting to risk Toledo. They'd probably turn down Detroit.

Iowa St would be fun. :D

Played at Washington, and got blown out. Could have been Pinkle’s tenure.

Wasn't the ASU win forfeited or vacated because of ineligible players playing for the Sun Devils?
Kush was canned mid season for things related to punching his punter in the mouth the previous year.

Pinkle's 1st year...told us on Monday that everyone that travels that week will play...basically told us that we had zero chance. They were #1 at the time and we really didn't have much of a shot, but it was the 1st time that I've ever had a coach throw in the towel...didn't even seem like we game planned for UW...didn't even watch the film after the game.
