Report out that Sumlin is done after LSU game
From the Houston Chronicle
They say that Kevin Sumlin will be fired regardless of the results against LSU this week.
Quote:At his weekly news conference on Tuesday, a resolute Sumlin said he expects to be A&M's coach next season.
"Why wouldn't I?" he said in response to a question from the Chronicle about his future.
Told that the Chronicle had learned he wouldn't be back next season, Sumlin responded, "I haven't heard that."
Where does Texas A&M go next?
Quote:The Aggies' top target is Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher, according to people with knowledge of the school's plans. Fisher won a national title following the 2013 season with the Seminoles, but FSU is 4-6 this season, easily his worst showing in eight years as head coach in Tallahassee. He has won at least 10 games in a season six times at FSU, something Sumlin has managed once at A&M in six seasons.
Fisher's name first surfaced to the Chronicle as a candidate in September, after the Aggies blew a 34-point lead at UCLA in the season opener. Fisher, who is 82-23 at FSU, has said late this season that he will not address other jobs, including A&M. A&M athletic director Scott Woodward, brought onboard in part in 2016 to systematically evaluate Sumlin's tenure, and Fisher have a prior relationship from working together at LSU in the early to mid-2000s.

All we need do is to take Fisher for A&M, Fuente for Tennessee, and find a solid home for Dabo in the SEC (I'm thinking Auburn if Malzahn heads to Arkansas). Kelley can head to Florida. Nothing would stabilize the SEC more, or destabilize the ACC faster.
Now there is a fine mission for a Tennessee grad to accomplish. Jimmy Sexton is just the guy to get her done.

The ACC is just fine. You are a nutjob.
There are some that just can't stand handle the fact that the ACC has survived and thrived, and continue to attempt to "destabilize" the ACC as if realignment was part of some sort of Machiavellian Plot designed to benefit only the SEC.

Will any SEC team wind up with Kiffin?
I've also heard rumors of him returning to TN. While I don't think that should happen, I think he would be a better option than many this time around. Would be funny (and awful) if he took the TN job, did well, only to leave again for USC again if they fire Helton at some point.
Better fits: Arkansas? Texas A&M?

Kiffen is brilliant with x’s and o’s, but he left both Tennessee and so Cal with sanctions. He is a major risk to a P5 school. He may need more time to prove he can win and run a clean program down at FAU.
Dude needs to rebuild bridges first. He might have a better shot in the PAC or Big 12 this offseason than the SEC.

How about Kiffen at Ole Miss or State if Mullins leaves for Florida or Tennessee?

X, we don't allow insults on the forum and importing them from another site is really really weak and trollish. But I'll tell you this in indelible terms. The SEC will do what is best for the SEC the ACC be damned!
If you were all of that and a bag of chips you'd be paid for it and people would watch. You aren't and they don't! If the SEC decides to go after a couple of ACC coaches it will be supply and demand at work and not Machiavelli. We pay more, give more exposure, and fund the programs at levels where any decent coach should be able to achieve.
The simple truth is that the ACC doesn't.
I'll bring something else over from LT since you did. Nobody needs to give the ACC any applause. Your conference has won 7 national titles in football and 3 of them belong to Florida State. Maryland won back in '53 when I believe Bear was there. Clemson won one under a soon to be banished Danny Ford in '81. Georgia Tech was included by the Coaches Poll in '90 when Colorado won theirs in the A.P.. Clemson got their second against Bama in 2016.
I say that to point out that as a power conference the ACC wreaks in football. Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and U.S.C. have all won more national titles each than the ACC has combined. You guys borrowed Notre Dame which by itself has almost tripled the number of national titles claimed by the ACC.
I stand by remarks in spite of all of the ACC choir boy attempts to claim otherwise. Until you have sustained a winning tradition you simply aren't going to get the respect. And the overall records this year stand for themselves. I also stated there that you guys have 5 programs that are usually decent in any given year. Most years it has been Florida State and Clemson, with an occasional appearance by Louisville, Miami, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, or N.C. State. But in the average year you have 2 legitimate threats and 3 also rans and the rest are pretty sad. That's what you are, nothing else. Nobody benefited more by the departures of Spurrier and Meyer than the ACC.

I could see State, but I think Ole Miss needs someone with a much "cleaner" reputation, even if he has learned his lesson. So guys like Petrino and Kiffin are out for Ole Miss.
Also, just had a random thought: I've heard about Bob Stoops for some SEC jobs, why not Tressel?

Sometimes the grass is not so green on the other side. I am not one of the folks here advocating Sumlin's firing. I think the Aggies will be sorry, and it will be a 50 million dollar bet, with the coaching carousel turning at the crazy level, plus buyouts, etc.

The relationship was too broken to repaired. Maybe if all the early season antic hadn't happened a way could have been found to mend the fence, but not at this point.

Actually what A&M "MUST" have is an excellent D.C.. I agree that Sumlin may be un-salvageable. If they hire Fisher he would be a great name to rally support around and if they get that great D.C. with him then things will look up for the Aggies.
I would postulate that if they had had a great D.C. with Manziel they may have won a natty. IMO the issue has only been the Head Coach because they have never had a reliable defense since joining the SEC.

Big 12 legacy.
Considering that Mizzou is just now addressing this I'd say that's exactly correct. It's also why the committee has not trusted Big 12 champions. Oklahoma's only sojourn into the CFP so far was met with an epic beat down by one of your's with a defense.

To make a second motion on SEC exposure, I have watched every single Mizzou game on TV this year. Never happened in the Big XII unless OU or Nebraska was the opposing team. I do not know if NC was on TV every week. I think the ACC is a nice football conference but you have that BB reputation. In the SEC it "just feels different..."
