Agreed... we would have had a **** crowd, lost money, and likely got killed like last year.

Yep...boycott over.

Sooooo.....what else is there to talk about...07-coffee3

BOOOOO.... I would have loved to play WSU, win or lose. Loss on a big stage is better than no stage. Plus there's the crazy notion that the game was not over before it began. I'm pissed we're not going. (Plus I live in L.A., road trip!)

As much as I'm always up for another game this is for the best. Our coaches can continue to focus on recruiting, and getting beat 70-7 in the bowl game would not have helped that. Plus the pundits would have been mocking us again. Let's continue to regroup and come back strong next year.

Agreement with everyone above. Getting everyone back on campus, arranging housing, meals, then travel arrangements for way too many administrators, staff, cheerleaders (band?), etc., plus more housing, meals, coupled with bowl's ticket purchase requirements, minus whatever portion we would have gotten -- NO ONE ON HERE CAN EXPLAIN THE MAC'S BOWL PAYOUT PROCEDURE....one slice per each member, three slices for league office, two slices for participating school, etc.? -- would have been the equivalent of putting your monthly paycheck on one roulette wheel number.

Here's a suggestion NIUfilmmaker, go to the game wearing Huskie gear and I'm sure you'll get on camera because it will give the TV talking heads a perfect excuse to mention the "what if" scenario should Minnesota not have played. Then you and like-minded folks can argue with proverbial PJ hater DogPoundNorth on the value of "exposure" when the Huskies are mentioned during someone else's bowl game. As a side bonus, keep your receipts NIUfilmmaker and total up how much you spent, then put that amount into a 2017 Christmas Club account and you can use it for the next time we've earned a bowl invitation.

RE: NIU to the Holiday Bowl?
San Diego State who beat NIU by 2 TD's in a competitive game early season, showed just how good they really are by beating Houston ( who beat top 10 Oklahoma ) by 34-10. 24 points!

San Diego State had 3 interceptions and Darnell Pumphrey rushed for an NCAAF career record , surpassing Wisconsin's Ron Dayne to become the leading NCAAF career rusher.

Houston had the second best rush defense in the NCAAF.
Pumphrey got two TD's and 115 yards before being taken out early.

So NIU's 14 point loss against St. Diego State looks great now!

NIU FB might not be nearly as bad as many on this board feel it is.

To be honest San Diego State, USF, and Western Michigan will all be ranked in the top 25. Wyoming played in the Mountain West championship. It's not like NIU lost to the sisters of the poor all year. Other than USF they were in every game. Just couldn't execute.

Yeah every time we get wrecked in a bowl, it just further erases the memory in everyone's mind (fans and recruits alike) that we played in a BCS bowl and were competitive. I saw enough awful game play for one year. Let's move on to next season.

I am confused. Where is our regular pundit who anointed Houston, Navy and Temple the greatest thing since sliced bread on this? Far superior to WMU. Then again, Boise and SDST were too.

Can't wait to see if the stats and justification follow.03-lmfao

Yeah NIU just spotted half the teams they played three score leads. That is what good teams do. They beat no one this year and lost to a bad FCS team at home. Bottom 20 in all of FBS in defense, special teams, and penalties. When the MAC goes 0 - 6 this bowl season NIU's resume will look even weaker. It was a bad year for NIU football no matter how you slice. Hopefully they rebound next year.

You're pretty much right on what you point out but also played With the ranked teams well. Thing is, in doing so, along with horrible in penalties -- that shows bad coaching

Figured I would revive this Thread since MD keeps saying that nobody cares about Bowls and that they don’t matter to fans or players. Lol

If you actually read the responses not many people are excited, in fact it sounds like dread to me. Plus it just emphasizes my point about it not being based on accomplishment. A .500 NIU team getting to a bowl because somebody else could not make it. I mean good grief, what are we really doing here lol. It reminds me of my first slow pitch league when they would not allow strikeouts, everyone gets a hit haha. Can you imagine the excitement an end of MAC season would get if the MAC champ got a playoff spot at end of the year. There would be amazing atmospheres. Heck if the stakes were that high you just might be able to hold your whole 2nd half of season on weeknights and do well with attendance, if there was actually something of consequence on the line.

Bowl games ARE irrelevant in this day and age. Yes, they mean something to players because of a distant link to 'tradition', and the fact that its usually a vacation where you get swag. lets be real though...there are far too many for them to be special anymore.

Wrong.... The 1 mil+ viewers attracts recruits and furthers your program. Winning them and showing high school kids your trophy case matters. For a Toledo fan, being snubbed from the MACC but continually being competitive in bowl games has kept us a winning team in years after.

They should. The Conference recognizes it.
