Quote:The midweek games can have an effect on attendance, especially in bad weather. There have been senior days — make that nights — when the players and their families are greeted by thousands of empty seats as they are introduced on their home field for the last time.

Good grief!!!!! What an ahole!
Is he saying the conference wasn't competitive in 2003 before we were playing all these midweek games?

What I'm becoming accustomed to, is being one of 1,000 people in a stadium that seats close to 24,000. I'm accustomed to freezing my *** off because we couldn't play during the day. I'm accustomed to hearing the seniors announced on senior night in front of 50 people, as I head toward the stadium after work. When I watch the replay, I'm accustomed to wondering what recruits think when they see a 90% empty stadium. I'm accustomed to a conference commissioner acting like none of that matters.

The a-hole is arrogant and talking down to fans. This conference deserves to sink down the drain. If I were the major MAC teams, I would be seriously looking NOW to vacate this sad excuse for a conference.

I love his comment on home team players going to morning classes although they may be off site with the team.
Because we do care about the student athlete but playing on 5 days rest isn't harmful.
Who is carting them back and forth to campus?

Quote:MAC football: Where every day is Saturday ... except Saturday
For years, if college football had a slogan, it was, “Saturday afternoon in the fall means college football!”
Nowadays, the slogan would be more accurate if it went like this: “Almost every day — and night — in the fall means college football!”
Quote:“No question those have been issues,” Steinbrecher said. “We hear sometimes from families, and we hear from fans, too. We’re going against tradition here. Very few people like to see traditions change. In an ideal world, all college football games would start at 1 o’clock Saturday or 7 o’clock Saturday. But that’s not the world we live in, especially where we’re coming from.”

Eh, he's the presidents' puppet, not the other way around. As long as a majority of the presidents love this deal the commissioner who works for them is going to love this deal. And no way in hell is EMU/Akron/Kent/BSU/Miami/Buffalo/BGSU giving up the $800k annual check to get their Saturdays back.

This is like a clothing store carrying nothing but ugly and impractical clothing that nobody wants or buys. But the store manager says, "Times have changed, this is today's clothing, we're moving with the times, and you need to buy our clothes if you want to wear anything."
Sorry, Steinbrecher, the world does NOT operate the way YOU want it to. People buy products they like and are convenient to them. Keep preaching your beliefs to the empty stadiums, a-hole.

Then the other teams in the MAC need to get the hell out of the conference and let the remaining teams fend for themselves.

They can continue to enjoy this deal, as long as they know there will be no product left to sell. A choice has been made to collect as much money for "me" while the house is burning down. Everyone knows this gig is about up, and people are just doing the moneygrab right now. Noone has the interest of the conference in mind. And I love how he pulled a Jerry Kill in taking credit for the conference competitiveness. The conference thrives on the field DESPITE you trying to destroy it

Too bad our fearless AD is in lock step with him. I agree though, if this course continues and it appears it will, NIU probably needs to leave

This guy need to be ousted before the MAC becomes a bigger joke and turns into a FCS conference. We can't change the ESPN contract but we can change the idiot who agreed to it.
