Why? USF won the game but then ended the season in irrelevance.
Winning Friday would mean that USF would, for the first time ever, actually play for a conference title. And have an opportunity for something larger after that.

Here is usf fan in front of their Conference championship trophy case:
Don't think usf has even won a divisional title yet either.
So yes, next Friday will be their first ever game to get the chance to play for (may not even win) a conf title.

Huh? That game was played on Sept 28, 2007. What did y'all do that year?
Oh that's right...only went 4-3 in conf play, including a 3 game losing streak then capped that season off by being embarrassed by 35 pts in a bowl game.
Leavitt won numerous "September" Championships but since the season plays into Jan, one still to produce in Oct, Nov, Dec and sometimes Jan, something which UCF has done multiple times. (UCF has won or played for 6 Conf Titles since 2005.)

I guess I missed the recent use of the term, but it's funny how much revisionist history/denial that exists among some of the UCF fan base.

It might be near the top 10 for UCF too-- it's close. Really every game at this point in the season has an argument to be up there.
Yeah going undefeated in the regular season wouldn't be that big of a deal...assuming you take care of Temple
Huh? Not even close to the biggest game for USF. The West Virginia game in 2007 was way bigger. Statement game for the program. The game they lost to Rutgers when ranked 2nd in the nation was bigger. They were in the hunt for a national title at that point.
Right now, USF is playing for a chance to play in a conference championship game for the right to play in a second tier BCS game against a P5 school that will probably be disappointed that they are there. While it would be nice for the school to get to a BCS bowl, that is still a long way off at this point in time, even if they beat UCF.
What? We are gonna start saying USiF now?

Not after that game...but even when they made it up to #2, it last just one week and 2 weeks later they were out of the rankings all together.
Last I checked, they don't give out weekly "we are #2 trophys for one week only".

Even a broken clock's right twice a day, but that wasn't what the claims were. And you're hilariously looking at things through your black and gold glasses.
You have a higher athletic budget because you have the highest student fees going to athletics in the conference.
You aren't forced to release your "actual" attendance, so there's no real apples to apples comparison.
You like to say we were "gifted" BCS inclusion, but it came about because we developed a working relationship with Louisville and Cincinnati in other sports rather than ignore basketball for years and were actually a FOUNDING member of Conference USA rather than decline their invitation to a football invitation because you thought YOU guys were going to be 'gifted' a Big East membership, and when that didn't happen you joined the MAC (and insulted the entire conference before you ever played a game).
You guys earned every bit of that nickname back in the day. I don't think it applies these days, but it's amazing how you all refuse to ever acknowledge any fault of your own and blame USF for every single thing that ever happens to you.

Remember, the State of Florida built/paid for the 10,000 Seat Sundome in 1979-1980 which helped the brahama bulls at the time build up their basketball program while the state refused to do the same for that new school, UCF.

RE: Tampa Bay Times calls UCF game "The biggest game in USF football history"
The "Tampa Bay Times" didn't say that, Martin Fennelly did. Fennelly is known for making outlandish statements. Joey Knight, the TBT actual beat reporter for the Bulls, doesn't think it's the biggest every and wouldn't say so. It is a big game though, but off the top of my head, I can think of several bigger. USF beating Notre Dame, USF beating Florida State, USF beating Miami, USF beating #5 West Virginia, and USF beating a top 10 Louisville. There are others, but those are the ones that come to mind. The USF WVU game was #18 USF vs. #5 WVU with Rich Rod and Pat White. The same WVU team that was a play away from playing for the National Championship. 67,000 Bulls fans attended the game at a sold out Raymond James Stadium. It propelled USF to #2, and had USF won out, would have played for the NC (obviously that didn't happen, but it gave USF the chance to, something neither USF or UCF can aspire to now). That said, this year's USF/UCF game is obviously a big one and right up there as well.

that's USF for ya. born on 3rd base and think they hit a triple. nothing was ever given to UCF, they've scratched and clawed for everything they have and that's probably why they value opportunities and actually achieve things.
