After yesterdays stirring win over the ticks the team is preparing for the last regular season game against Elon. Winner will get the CAA autobid to the playoffs.

So who is going? Wife, younger daughter (2015) and I will be heading to Raleigh on Friday to pick up the older daughter (2010) and her husband for the game on 11/18. So will have 5 fans ROOTIN!! hard for the Dukes. Hoping for a large turnout of Purple and Gold for this critical last regular season game,

I'll be in Wilmington for a wedding. Should be able to stream it from Elon's site, but I may see if any bars in town will have it on.

We have to be down in NC for Thanksgiving starting Monday but the older kid has a 2 day soccer tourney on Saturday and Sunday so will be streaming it from my iPad during the tourney.

The FCS national stats are slower than usual to update this week. It says they're updated, but I can tell just from looking at them that they are not. All teams only showing 9 games played, last week's stats, etc.

Looking at Elon vs. UNH box score:
UNH lead 16-0 until 3:16 remaining in the game. Elon gets a trash time passing TD and goes for two to try and halve the lead. Their conversion attempt was no good. 16-6 UNH final.

Cheek was 21-46 for 284 yds and a TD. Elon was contained for only 31 yards rushing.
Knight was 32-42 for 271 yds and a TD. UNH rushed for only 65 yards though.
UNH won the turnover battle 3-1. The key to UNH's win was dominating the time of possession 38:17 to 21:43.

I've got a group of 14, well sort of, 3 or 4 are Elon grads.

It appears that many seats are still available both through JMU and directly through Elon. You'd think some wind is taken out of their sails after the UNH loss and #1 JMU looming. Meanwhile students should be gone for Thanksgiving break and that'll hurt their turnout compared to most games.
They're averaging 7,600 per game in an 11,250 seat stadium, for about 2/3 capacity on average.

My Take: Both teams have average passing games with a very slight edge to JMU. We have the edge with the more efficiently rated QB behind center. We have a noticeably more productive rushing offense as well that should prove the difference on that side of the ball.
We continue to lead in every major defensive category except for our 7th ranked rush D (boo hoo, I know). It really couldn't be more night and day on the defensive side of the ball compared to Elon... but I have been saying this going all the way back to before the W&M game. Each week we were supposed to finally be getting to the point of our schedule where we're seeing crap defenses. Yet there they are, easily containing our offense for at least the 1st half. That is extremely concerning IMO.
We desperately need a very convincing CAA win that is put away early. Lets get that done this week with momentum heading into the playoffs and the #1 seed locked up.

I think the UNH win over Elon last week is very telling that the Phoenix are likely a paper tiger barely getting by each week against some of the lower end teams in the CAA this year. UNH was their toughest opponent since their FBS game against Toledo and they were easily put in their place. We still scored 14 against that UNH D that held Elon to a shutout until trash time with 3 minutes remaining. I don't see anything particularly threatening about Elon's offense to give our nation's best defense fits and it does appear that their running game has taken a notable hit since the Malcolm Summers injury.

I really hope we can offensively prosper in this game and can finally kick back and relax as early as halftime for the first time in CAA play.

Two points to add to your comment:

We need to get up and get the starters off the field. Get the second string some late season reps and limit injuries.

Also, Elon is Richmond on the other side of the small wins. Like I mentioned in another thread, four of Richmond's 5 losses were decided by a touchdown or fewer. Three of those four were by a combined total of 13 points. Elon is on the better end of a similar situation.

Versus has it JMU 33, Elon 12.

The ETSU game is the lone game this season where we scored a TD on our first offensive drive. Three games we scored on the 2nd drive. Two we scored on the 3rd drive. One on the 4th drive. One on the 5th drive. Finally, two on the 6th drive. Very slow starting offense all season.
