So this article addresses a couple calls in the game, with video of the personal foul on the FG for "leaping". They didn't even mention the facemask penalty later in the game, which I think was the worst call of the game.

Despite all that USM out gained Tenn

Penalties:
USM- 14 for 120
Tenn- 3 for 29

USM had two big turnovers on there half of the field in the second half that led to 14 points.

Well, I'd say take care of the ball and the refs wouldn't have mattered.

We lost that game because our QB was just awful.

Sure, the refs didn't help, but Howard was awful.

When you play SEC teams you just have to expect that. You almost have to play super-human football to ever beat one of them.

I like how the SEC has no email addresses for their staff. So, I blasted the SEC network... Let's see if I get a response...

The refs that called that game should be fired -- every one of them. They are either grossly incompetent or were all on the take. Either way, they should never call another game. That was just unbelievable.

Were they Coosa or SEC refs ?

Obviously SEC refs...

That was one of the worst calls I've ever seen in my life. I watched the whole game, and it was there to be won for Southern Miss.

I refuse to blame refs for a loss. Won't this time. That said, if I ever saw a game where I could easily be sold on the fact that the referees had been bought off, it would be this game. That penalty on the USM player jumping up to try and block a fg should be investigated by the NCAA. It is the most obvious bought off official I have ever seen. The ref actually put his arm out to try and interfere with a USM player.

on the TN board, their theory is that, as the worst team in the conference, all the good SEC refs were taken. but even the vols fans admitted that we were molested all night.

Don't forget the no-call on targeting at the start of the game. Their excuse was that our QB was slipping, not sliding. Looked like textbook targeting to me.
