This is not to degrade UAB, La Tech or anyone...they just ain't our rivals.

Do majority Southern Miss fans feel this way? I know a lot of fellow UAB fans that consider Southern Miss to be a big rival. Memphis is still probably at the top of the list for us though.

Who knows, lol. Eaglebeaver has been on a passive aggressive bender since the win against Tech last Saturday. In football, Tulane has always been horrible minus a few seasons, Memphis was trash when they were in CUSA and ECU was good in CUSA but has since became a dumpster fire in the AAC. The current CUSA lineup is building several nice rivalries in various sports but some posters are so stuck on the past that they can't appreciate what is currently happening.

They were also mostly our worst teams ever that beat USM, other than Bill Clarks first year. USM alone accounts for 25% of our FBS wins from 2009-2014. The 2011, 2012, and 2013 are 3 of the bottom 4 UAB teams ever according to sports-reference. In 2013, UAB and USM both fielded their worst teams ever. Basically all of 2006-2013 was bad UAB football, but those 3 seasons along with 2007 took the cake.

Honestly. I just want a rival. I don’t think we have one currently. But, I don’t really care who it is, I just want to hate one of your teams. Play for a trophy. Have a game played for bragging rights. A lot of our fans are too proud to even think that we can have a current CUSA rival even in the future. However the same fans scoffing at having a rivalry with LA Tech and UAB are the same fans who get pissy when Ole Miss or State doesn’t hate us either. A little ironic.

I’m not old enough to know what the Rivalry in Dixie used to be. I grew up with our battles with ECU, Memphis, and Louisville. I now live in New Orleans and work with Tulane grads so I’m hoping that hate comes back in the future. I think LA Tech can turn into a good rivalry and UAB has the proximity to as well. It’s just going to take a few more years and a few more close, hard fought games.

Don't kid yourselves. A rivalry is brewing between USM and LaTech. You take a team behind the wood shed, then you hand them a W only to rip it away last second. It won't be long and we'll get beat by them 35+, where they won't let off the gas and score in last couple seconds to rub it in, then it will be ON.

After we beat UAB 70-14 in 2008, they bring it and play up when they play us. I never understood why we ran up the score like that on them.

We didn’t, we had 70 in the third quarter when we called off the dogs. They couldn’t stop us running the ball up the middle that day.

I am sure the UAB fans got a kick out of seeing Fedora lose 59-7 this last week in his fifth season at UNC.

We'll, we should have put our punter in at tailback.

Fedora had no problem running up the score. Seeing him get his azz handed to him 59-7 last week, I wondered how he felt.

Uh...we played Memphis EVERY year for 50 years (axe-ually twice one year!), ECU and Tulane for over 30 years, so their records, as in any rivalry, never was the point.

I'd say some of youse guys have an inferiority complex (04-cheers), because saying You-aye-Bay and Tech aren't our rivals doesn't mean you are chopped liver or unworthy---it just means "you ain't our rivals".

....and the win last Satdee would raise anyone's spirits, whether it was against The Sisters o' the Poor, La Tech or Notre Damn...03-woohoo

How does LaTech not qualify as a rival?

a frequent opponent is NOT necessarily a rival my friend. Ole Piss and Fail State have played Vandy a million times, but they are NOT rivals.

Been a USM fan longer than I wanna know...and I can't think of a friend, acquaintance or enemy who thinks La Tech or UAB is a rival.

IF you think they ARE a rival, then that's A-OK with me, too!04-cheers

Beav, I have been a friend of yours since Little League, and I have always considered them a rival. Very similar school and athletic program as ours.

The thing you have to remember about 2008 was that was Fedora's first year and we were not doing great going into the UAB game. In fact our record was 2-6 and bowl game hopes were on the line. All our previous games were super close losses...we were itching to win and win big. Unfortunately for UAB, they ran into a buzzsaw that game and we unloaded all our anger on them. We didn't lose a single game the rest of the season. Finished 7-6 with a bowl win over Troy in NOLA bowl.

No...at least, not this one. And for the record. I'm glad you guys are back and with some fire in your bellies to boot. Your continued improvement will help build this game into a rivalry whether some USM fans will admit to it, or not.

See.. i'll disagree with beaver on LA tech.. But I'm one of those "old school" believers. A rivalry doesn't start/end just because you weren't there for those games. Now if a rivalry stops, and isn't picked back up, so be it... because the schools agree to stop it.

Top rivals:: Played them a lot, and often... and it was for games you had a crowd for, home or away.

Memphis, LA Tech, Tulane, ECU

2nd rivals:: Played often, may not have had a crowd, but it was easy to get into the trash talk (whether in good nature, or serious "f-u" trash talk(MissSt.) . UAB/Alabama/Miss State could easily be elevated into the top tier, if the games are played on a yearly/near yearly basis (So UAB would likely get to the top rival after a few more years.. we're at having only played 15 games between the two right now... so I easily see this moving to top tier soon.)

UAB, ULL, L'Ville, Alabama (yeah, I know... we keep losing to them, but it's still an important game to USM fans), Mississippi State

3rd tier: A few more games and it'd get up to one of the primary rivals. these are games that would be easy to get excited over watching.. just needed a few more games regularly scheduled for it to be an official rivalry, but will likely never happen.

FSU, Houston, Cincinnati, and Auburn.
