I get ND jumping up, but how does Clemson jump over Miami?

I guess Miami was like USF, they were perceived to have struggled with what was regarded as an inferior opponent going in, and that can nick you in the polls.
Same thing happened to Oklahoma State, they eeked by Texas and lost a position in the poll.

You conveniently forgot to add that Memphis is #26, 2 votes behind #25 Michigan.
It actually wasn't convenient, just a statement of fact. I'd like to see Memphis make it in to the Coaches poll as you did in the AP poll.

By that you mean the same team that beat Clemson the week before. so they couldn’t win but jump the team that could. Makes sense.

We all know the polls can be crazy. I'd bet it's just that given their recent history, Clemson has built up a lot of good-will with the pollsters, so they will get every benefit of the doubt, whereas nobody is sure if Miami is for real.

You mean that same inferior opponent that beat Clemson? Makes a lot of (common) sense to me. Never mind, I missed PT American's post. But it's worth repeating.

Crazy for sure - reminiscent of the BCS days when politics meant more than play on the field. Example, how does ND who beat a mediocre USC get all this rah rah? Every college sports show now touting that awesome ND football team. Heard one of the "experts" on ESPN radio say if ND wins out "there is no way to keep them out of the playoffs, even if UGA plays AL tough in the SEC championship and finishes 12-1" like ND. I'm thinking how can that be, given UGA beat ND at their place. What could be more defining than head-to-head competition? LSU gets thumped by Troy, hammered by Miss St, beats a very mediocre OM & they jump back in the polls, example after example???

Shh, navy upsetting nd will be huge this year and gets us four top 25 teams.
But just to your argument, osu got in over penn st. Didnt win their division and lost head to head.

Looking at aTm, ridiculous...........loss to UCLA yet Memphis beat UCLA. We have 2 top 25 wins, aTm none, go figure...... (saw this posed on the Memphis site too - just ridiculous. Hope there's a little more consistency when the real polls come out next week.
