That's the point. WKU fans shouldn't even broach the subject. If you want to dog our facilities or recruiting or our play calling, have at it. Y'all are clearly ahead of us in these areas. But WKU fans have no place to be judgemental about attendance or fans.

I've never understood our attendance issues. I get why attendance dropped through the floor during our FBS transition years. We were TERRIBLE. But, many of us still attended every game (myself included). However, the past 4 years we've put a great and very entertaining product on the field. I don't get the fan apathy. One problem is we have a lot of "fans" that tailgate but don't go to the games. We also have a lot of students that show up for a half or so and leave. Go figure. I believe some of it can be attributed to the fact that WKU (actually the entire state in general) is traditionally a basketball school. I just wish the community as a whole would support and appreciate the program and its accomplishments. The real fans are quite rabid. The casual fans not so much.

It's a "sermon" that I made my personal mission to "preach" to every Conference USA and G5 program since the day that the University of alabama system board of trustees/scumbags and UAB president ray "pumpkinhead" Watts, colluded to shut UAB's Football program down in 2014. If it could happen to us, it could happen to any of you. Support your teams, win or lose, with all your might. Don't give them a reason to even think of doing to you what was done to us. You don't want to go through what we had to in order to get our team back. If you don't have a seat at the dinner table, you are probably on the menu...

No one should be talking smack in this league. Hell, we wonder why we are only averaging a little over 24K with a now 6-1 record. We'll see what kind of numbers we get next week when FIU comes to town. If it's less than 28K with good weather, we have issues.

The biggest factor in the decline in sports attendance can be summed up in 4 letters - HDTV

In today's world, QUALITY of fan experience is much more important than QUANTITY of fans.

At least our fans buy tickets. We support a team that might win 3 or 4 games better than WKU supports a 2-time conference champ.

" why do thousands of fans get to the game late then leave early. Bugs the crap out of me seeing a few thousand fans leave in the 4th qt of a close game. Western fans are like that also"

As a fan that loves this game and sit in the stands (home and away) of winning or losing football. I don't understand people that buy a ticket (ODU's cheapest ticket isn't cheap (visiting fans pay $35)...Western's isn't neither $20) miss most of the first quarter then get up and leave right when the game is getting good/close and your team has a chance to win or blow the game.

No matter where it's at...it bugs the crap out of me. I understand some people have other plans and must leave. But not a few thousand. I guess we should just be thankful those people at least came to the game, paying for a ticket and at least making the effort to "support" their team. Unlike those "fans" that only watch on TV.

But as a fan...if you are making the effort to get there..why get up and leave at the most important time of the game? Doesn't matter where the game is being played or which team is home. I just don't get it.

As I said a prefect night for football and a good game to watch, as a fan. ODU wins this game if your coach kept hitting 5 to 9 yard passes and pounding Western with the run. As a Western fan....I will gladly take all gifts. Don't care if it's from the other team or officials.

The freshman is going to be a good QB at some point once he develops the 15 yard to deep pass. Right now he doesn't seem to be able to make it or confident in the throw. ODU had a sure TD that was over thrown and the important INT under thrown.

I personally don't think this is the coach that will take ODU to where fans want the program. But the support is there and sitting in a talent rich area and no real supper powers (like us fighting in the south for talent) ODU will get the talent to compete.....win.

Let's take it one day at a time.

I'm absolutely sure the team will. As a fan, I don't need to. The bottom line is this. WKU is still the most talented team in CUSA. I don't think that's really in question. Our problem so far is our young, inexperienced coaching staff (and maybe just bad, but too early to say for sure). No, we're not as good as the last two years, but we're still talented. We'll see if the coaching catches up to the talent.
.
Also the defense is decimated with a bunch of injuries. Including 2 of the best defenders Joe Brown and Marcus Ward. Kyle Bailey is 3rd string. Most people react more when the offense loses key guys, the same can be said for the defense.

FWIW, the over throw was due-to the WR slowing down and lost ball. That ball seemed to be on target. The under throw was not, much rather over throw there.

ODU has had so many injuries this year its hard to keep track. At one point we were down 8 starters and had 49 guys on injury report.

Yeah, I was one of the fans that had to leave at halftime. Friday nights are pretty rough on us, personally, and I think it's the same way with many people with families who were at work or had kids at school that day. I don't want to make excuses but I really hope we never have a 6pm Friday night again.

Not buying that excuse. The UTSA/North Texas game was on local television in Dallas and we pulled over 23,000 to the game, which might not be great, but it is our high for the season so far.

I think attendance is more a reflection of the amount of potential viewers (alumni & local population) combined with the quality of play on the field.

It's a new year. They play of at least Marshall clearly shows we are miles ahead of last year. If teams won on talent only, Bama and a few other schools would never lose, ever. Jmo.

Our issues last year had nothing to do with talent. It's was attitude and head cases. We quit about the 10th game.

You probably have the best QB and maybe WRs. Certainly don't have the most talented O line or D line or RBs or DBs

I was at the game last night. I was shocked how many ODU fans were leaving with 2:20 left when ODU still had a real chance (and almost did) to win.

Made the trip up to Norfolk for the game. Couple thoughts:

1. Parking sucks... Not even a paid lot to pull into. Hunt for street parking.
2. Loved the food trucks for concessions. Had some amazing nachos.
3. That cannon about made me pee my pants and spill the previous mentioned nachos!
4. 3-Q was one of the worst quarter of WKU Football I'd seen. Did we run a single rush play? Play calling was terrible, defense was terrible. Outscored 17-0.
5. The unnecessary roughness was a bad call. The ODU defender was going for the ball and landed on WKU player. But, those type of plays and calls are part of the game.
6. Refs botched the end of the game. The clock was rolling and should have been a run-off.

There is a free parking garage (or 2?) and other paid lots all around.

I didn’t say you were the same team as last year. I said neither team has changed enough in one year for you to have better talent than us. No doubt it’s much closer, but our issue has been a coaching staff in training, not talent. FYI, I’m not new. I’ve just posted very little.
