This is probably the most intriguing game of the week. I'll be curious to see how Memphis' offense does against a team that controls the ball a lot; I'll be curious to see if Navy can run all over Memphis' weak defense.

I am guessing Navy will want to control tons of clock in this one.

True, but how is that different from any of their other game plans?

With many teams they'd probably be content to score as quickly as they can and see if their defense can slow the other offense. Memphis is the best offense they've seen so far. I doubt Navy wants to get into a shootout.

Well, they don't have a hurry up offense to worry about, anyway. They have one style, triple option, so they are going to score as usual, on the ground, eating up time. It's not like they are suddenly going to a pass happy offense, lol.

Even with the shotgun tweak, it's still the triple option.

Memphis needs to get up early in this one. If Memphis is behind in the second half, the Midshipmen will grind out a win.

This will be a shoot out but if your defense can get a stop or two you guys got this.

Yeah, no way we could execute a 1:35 drive to win a pressure packed game. I mean except for last week. Where three of our TDs were QUICKER than the game winner.
Or we didn't already have half-ending two minute drill TDs earlier this season.

I expect the strategy will be to limit your possessions, but honestly we may bust too many big plays for that to be the case.

Our defense is already better than last year, but, yes, I am worried that Memphis has SO many weapons, and the more aggressive defensive philosophy - although designed with the quality AAC offenses like yours in mind - has proven to be susceptible to big plays.

Probably going to be a last-team-with-the-ball kind of game. But the optimist in me thinks that we WILL limit possessions enough that every Memphis possession becomes crucial and pressing leads to one or two mistakes on your part and then we grind with a lead.

You completely missed my point. I was saying you usually don't have to worry about a hurry up offense, b/c you manage to control the clock, by grinding it out in the triple option.

I wasn't referring to the last-minute offense at all, nor did I say it was a problem for Navy. I watch every game Navy plays, including the one you referenced. You forget I'm a Navy fan when they aren't playing Memphis. 01-wingedeagle

You're right, then - I completely misread your point. At risk of stating the obvious, I took your first sentence to be "Navy doesn't have a twoinute offense Memphis has to worry about." I'll retract my snarky first paragraph.

I'll stick with the rest of my guesses though - probably will be both offenses moving efficiently and effectively, and potentially last team with the ball wins.

Corollary to that is that if one O makes a mistake it could provide enough separation to make it a double-digit game.

Dude. Ball and clock control is ALWAYS our goal. Against EVERY opponent. That's part of why we run the option.

That's what I was trying to say earlier. Why worry about the last minute offense? The issue is whether Memphis can stop the time consuming drives that eat up clock, and stay on point with its own offense, which does NOT eat up clock.

It's going to be hot today, and our D is likely going to be on the field a lot. Now is not the time for us to slow down our hurry up offense. That's why we have to score a lot, and try to slow down the triple option time machine.
