anyone but the Yankees or the Red Sox... let someone else get a shot.

I don't think that'll be a problem this year.. Cleveland and Houston are miles better than the AL-East boys...

And Houston pretty much ROCKED the probably AL Cy Young winner.. a 12.60 ERA for Sale :)

Wheee... I have a team that's doing something this year!!! YEAH!!! Stay hot Altuve!

That's not the probable AL Cy Young winner. The probable AL Cy Young winner starts today vs the Yankees.

Dunno Pirate, a few reporters on various MLB shows said Sale was still kind of the front runner... (disputable.. that's why I said Probable.. not "definite") 03-razz

Besides it sounds better than saying "My team beat the Cy-Young runner up" or a "Cy Young vote getter" :)

Probably some advanced metrics absolutists. Sale is one of their favorite sons, and they're desperate to get him a Cy Young.

Kluber has the award, and it's not going to be close at all. He should get most all the 1st place votes.

Why not? It's better than a playoff spot being determined by someone's ace.

RE: 2017 MLB Season Thread
Chris Sale last 9 starts 5.12 ERA with a FIP that is high as well (his last 8 regular season starts had a 4.33 FIP(and a 4.30 ERA) and his FIP last night for the game was 9.16) 14 homers in his last 51 innings. And 9 doubles and a triple. Yikes.. Some bad time to go into the tank.

From Elias- he's the first pitcher in MLB history to give up 3 or more homers in both his final regular season start and his first playoff start.

RE: 2017 MLB Season Thread
good thing that the Cy Young Award vote has already taken place. The 3 top vote getters giving up 16 er in 8 innings. Yeah a 18.00 ERA. Yikes.

Severino 3 er in 0.1 ip
Sale 7 er in 5 ip
Kluber 6 er in 2.2 ip

So we finally found bad Kluber. I think we all knew that this type of start was in him.

RE: 2017 MLB Season Thread
saw this from ESPN:
Red Sox have lost five consecutive ALDS games over last two years. In those games, Sox starting pitchers (Rick Porcello, David Price, Clay Buchholz, Chris Sale, Drew Pomeranz) have allowed 32 hits (9 homers) and 23 earned runs in 18.2 innings for an 11.09 ERA.

oh, and this from the Dodgers game-
Clayton Kershaw is the first pitcher in Dodgers history to allow 4 HR in a postseason game and the first pitcher on any team to allow 4 HR in a postseason win.

meanwhile the Cubs/Nats game was 3-0. Remarkable. The other 7 playoff games have averaged 12.29 runs per game for both teams combined. You take out this game and yesterdays Indians/Yankees game, and the number goes up to 13.67 per game.

Figured that had to be a record. Maybe Kershaw just thought that with a big lead there was no reason to work the corners and possibly start walking batters, and just kept throwing fastballs in the middle of the zone.

He gave up back-to-back jack's to hitters toward the bottom of the order. That's a minor fluke.

OMG what an inning for the Nats. Harper with a 2 run jack and the guy that swoosh wanted to bury Zimmerman with a 3 run jack. Nats up 6-3 with the Cy Young favorite Scherzer due in game 3.

RE: 2017 MLB Season Thread
Been awhile, but finally have the chance to pop back in and say hey. Everything has been really busy lately , so I haven't had the chance to do our usual back and forth. Also, baseball was such a joke for me this year, so there's that.

Anyway, boy did Kluber prove stever right. Talk about one of the best down the stretch performances. Every game seemed like 7-9 innings, with double digit K's. Very very impressive.

Watched the last few innings of the Sox game at work yesterday. Tough loss, but I'm glad the Astros are moving on. If the Indians don't advance, I'll be rooting for the Astros. One problem for them is McCullers performance. If he isn't on top of his game, they're a little thin at SP. And while they have a very good pen, it's nowhere near that legendary pen that the Yankees are rocking.

Lastly, if the Nats flame out in another division series, will Matt Williams be the one having the last laugh? So far they look like the same old Nats postseason team that can barely scratch a run across.

it was eerie quite frankly going back to July 7 and looking at the numbers i was projecting.
Kluber 15-4 with a 2.25 ERA in 195 innings
Sale 18-6 with a 2.90 ERA in 225 innings

Kluber finishes with a 2.25 number and Sale with a 2.90 number. I should have gone to Vegas :)

It's going to be really interesting to see what the Red Sox do with Sale going forward. His last month and a half collapse was just amazing. While Kluber was amazing, if Sale had been able to pitch reasonably well down the stretch, he would have won it. But a 4.64 ERA from August thru yesterday with 17 hr in final 75.2 innings just killed him. I think the Red Sox made some serious mistakes with his usage in August/September. I do think they managed him to some degree trying to get him to win the award. And it backfired.

As far as the Nats/Cubs series- a lot of credit has to go to the Cubs starters. Kendricks, Lester, and Quintana are 3 really good starters. Cubs were the best team in the NL post all star break at 49-25. Tonight will be fun. Hopefully send to a game 5 and get a chance to move on to LA.

Great to have you back swoosh!!!! Now we just need Brookes Owl to get back and we're set.....

the interesting thing for the Cubs/Nats series is weather. Rain very possible for tonight's game. If that happens and it's rained out, Strasburg could come back to start game 4 tomorrow on regular rest, and Gio could start game 5 on regular rest. Taking out Roark. Cubs wouldn't have a huge difference in their starters.

just saw the Nats lineup out for game 4. Dusty moving Harper back to the 3 spot with Werth batting 2nd. Also having Zimmerman batting 4th and Murphy 5th. so while 1st 3 games- Turner/Harper/Rendon/Murphy/Zimmerman/Werth- today it's Turner/Werth/Harper/Zimmerman/Murphy/Rendon. I like it.

Came here to say this. Would be the break the Nats need

you were eerily spot on. You missed a great chance to buy a lotto ticket. It just seemed like every time he went to the mound he spun a dominant performance. And you're right, the Sox did not do a good job managing Sale's workload and it seems to have backfired. Although in fairness he pitched really well yesterday. Yes, he gave up a HR, but the Astros have a dominant lineup. Can't really blame him for yesterday's loss
