Carolina does this as well, plus I ***think*** you can rent one for the day if you don't have szn tix.

Vandy did that too. I think it was like $10. The kid brought it to our seats installed it and was on his way. They came and picked it up after the game. Way more comfortable than the chairback I have now.

I'd pay $50 a season for temporary seat with back. Hell I'd pay to be allowed to leave my own seat after each game. I'm always the sorry sucker who is carrying everyone's stadium seat.

Maryland rents them too. Great idea. ODU should follow suit.

RE: New Stadium Thread
I have said this before but ODU just doesn't have the money for all chair backs, fancy private bars, way to big of scoreboards (even tho I want it) and other such things. Just give us a decent sized stadium that has some character that is nice and has a couple upgrades. Spend the money wisely and come up with a few ways to make more money. Sell beer, temporary chair backs, better merchandise. Grow the fan base! #BEATVT (next year)

Yes, and the Populous original proposal/design would require narrowing it from 3 lanes to 2. The previous Mayor agreed to giving up that much of the street which would still allow for 2 way traffic. I would expect the new mayor will go along with that promise. I am not going to look it up (lazy) but it was out there in the VP or somewhere back at the time Populous made their big presentation. FWIW -ODU was also told, very firmly, that that was all they would get in terms of Norfolk city streets.

Ya basically you just lose the street parking on Bluestone Ave. Not that big of a deal. I am so ready for a bigger better stadium!

Yup, that is why the city readily agreed to it AND I am ready for a new stadium as well. 04-cheers

Same here. I have the feeling we've reached the point where our current stadium is really holding us back as a program. Get this done and watch ODU Football take off.

Wow, just noticed you are in Stuarts Draft. Drove thru there on our way back from the VT game. Amazing how much that area has grown.

Agreed. The stadium is embarrassing on TV and doesn't do much for fans at the games. The port-a-johns have got to go! Its amazing to see how a wall that separates the stands from the field makes your stadium look big time.

RE: New Stadium Thread
OFF TOPIC..... but stadium cost related.

I'm part of a private group that is assessing the situation going on with Great Bridge's Colon L. Hall Stadium. The stadium was once the jewel of the city boasting attendance records of 18k plus in the 60s and 70s. After decades of poor up keep and growth in the city the stadium has falling in disrepair and is just a shell of what it once was with about 3k to 5k seats. The team now works and showers out of portable trailers littered around the stadium. We have received a verbal estimate of about 8 million for a replacement stadium for 5k seats, the city has stated their estimates are in the 9 to 10 million range of the same.

My take away with our new stadium at ODU is 5,000 seats will cost about 8 to 10 million.

Yes. Especially the area across from the old Broadmoor Plaza. Let me know the next time and we'll grab a pre-tailgate meal somewhere.

That is $2,000 per seat. So if If we have $55,000,000 to spend, that gets me 27,500 seats. Ill take that for Phase I.

I would guess the costs per seat at ODU would be substantially higher than at Great Bridge. But, that doesn't have support. There is much more involved in a college stadium than high school.

Here is an in depth look into the finances at the University of Houston's TDECU Stadium from a couple years ago.

Also the big shopping center on down on your side of I-64 where the Discount Outlets used to be. Not up that way to much anymore but pretty much all my extended family (what is left of it) live/lived in and around Fairfield up to Steele' Tavern. Still, I remember when Stuarts Draft was barely a wide place in the road. Really something to see all that change. Thanks for the meal/visit offer I appreciate it.

I truly don't understand how the state of Virginia and the administration at ODU expect us to compete with other G5 teams when they are spending triple the amount on facilities as we do.

To me I dont see them spending more than us. Game Day building $29M, Phase I $55M, Phase II $99M Total $183M. We are just spreading the money out over years. The issue I have is that we are not getting the most for our money. If Houston gets 40k seats for $160M, how are we spending $183M and getting 30k seats. Could be some inflation there but not that much.

More towards Waynesboro, but yeah, that place really shot up.

Thomas Steele was one of my ancestors. Have lots of interesting ghosts stories around that area.

What are peoples thoughts on standing room only areas? No need to build more seats. Get more people in the door spending money and raises the capacity. Virtually guarantees a sellout if you sell standing room only tickets for $10-$20. Its a win win

Big fan. The Orioles and Nats do SRO tickets the right way and it would smart to emulate.

They could turn the beer garden into SRO. Leave their seats for fans that want to watch the game.
