It's inconsistent, it's petty, it's even more divisive than what was happening before.

You don't get many presidents publicly going against the first amendment saying that people should be fired for using it.

Right or wrong most of America is tired and annoyed with these anthem protests. Generally protesting is done on your own time not at your place of employment

It's not wrong that "most of America is tired and annoyed" (don't even know if that's true), but it is wrong for a president to come out like this regarding a private business that's doing nothing wrong legally.

Imagine the atmosphere here if Obama had come out and supported the boycott of Chick Fil A by calling the CEO a SOB.

Man 2017 is an interesting time.
Interesting comparison but I don't think its equal.

Trump called players protesting the country on company time unflattering and yes inappropriate names

I don't think chick-fil-a had any employees protesting on company time

It's a winning issue for Trump... it makes cnn.. And dems look like the American loathing commies.. Mom goes for it hook line and sinker and Americans who feel oppressed because they are not part of the Obama coalition.. Feel the President has there back. Trump is not very presidential but he he is doing what Barack did when he interjected himself into the Tray on mess.

But Trump didn't comment on them doing it on company time either. His comments were on the owner's not having a policy to get rid of players who did it. So it's going to be very hard to find a fantastic match. I believe the comparison is still good.

The only thing I can think of as exactly equal was when the NYPD protested the mayor of NY on company time. What if Obama came out and said they were SOBs?

Obama didn't call for anyone to get fired or call the police/detectives/DA any inappropriate names. Didn't say anyone should boycott the city or state.

They are getting paid to play not protest. I believe the President was pointing that out and how crazy it is that owners are not fining or firing players that are hurting their business.

A more apt comparison would have been if chick fil a fired an employee protesting the restaurant.

The NYPD protest of the NY mayor would be a more apt comparison. However were the officers protesting while on duty?

Also picked a fight with the Golden State Warriors. Rescinded their invitation to the White House after they pretty much said no anyway.

The whole not going to the white house thing is dumb. It was dumb when people boycotted Obama and it's dumb now. Getting asked to go to the white house is an honor you likely earned. What better opportunity to discuss your grievances?

I agree that they are getting paid to play, but there was no policy against kneeling during the national anthem. Owners just can't go make rules without consulting the players, unless it's for play. If players got cut or fined for that, they would've been taken to court and pummled by the lawsuit.

Does anyone's workplace have the right to tell you that you MUST stand for the national anthem or pledge of allegiance? ****, they aren't even protesting the national anthem or the flag.

Some were on duty and it shouldn't matter if they're on duty, they were still in uniform.

I think I agree, but I'm not entirely sure. It only takes one person to suck all of the honor out of the trip.

Will the presidency even be an honorable office after this show?

I like my freedoms. They extend to everyone else too.

I'm against these over payed NFL players too. But I have some advice for Trump. Just do your Effing job!!! You actually don't have to comment on everything that happens in the world. For Gods sake try to be somewhat presidential. I mean I know it's hard and the world cannot survive without your opinion on everything but please try. It's getting harder and harder to say I voted for you.

I agree. I served. A lot of my friends have served. I've lost friends who've served as military, police, and rescue. I ALWAYS stand for the national anthem when I'm at a game and I was flat out embarrassed when some in ECU's band kneeled.

But I didn't serve for a flag or a song and I've never met anyone else who has. What we serve is the constitution of the United States. That constitution demands that those in power do nothing that stands against free speech. A president who publicly stands against it is the exact opposite of what I served for.

I doubt it will. If anything some players are adamant about showing their hate for the US. They hate it so much that it hurts them to pick up their checks.

I doubt it will by tomorrow either.

But it took Dickerknick a season and a half, and losing million dollar paychecks to actually make any impact.

If people don't walk, that's fine, I get that. Just don't renew.

That kind of money for most of these teams? Go buy yourself a friggin boat for the weekends.

You don't get many presidents publicly going against the first amendment saying that people should be fired for using it.

I do. Says you can't make a law impeding free speech. I never said that the president was violating the first amendment, but he's definitely taking a stance against its use and against the NFL for not being against it. As the president you have to stand for the spirit of the amendment IMO. I think it's part of defending the constitution.
