When your program has emotional alumni and the program has money it's easy to fire coaches and AD's on the spot....

Anyone do the math on how much revenue 350 straight sellouts brings in with that size stadium? NIU can't even fill its stadium with $10 tickets.

Interesting but not surprising. Riley will be next even though he won 9'games last year.

Wonder if this will lead to a buyout of the rest of the contract?

Can you imagine our AD being fired because of a bad football or basketball season?

Which makes the upset and beat down of Nebraska even more impressive, to have that big of a resource discrepancy and take it to the Huskers does say a lot about the program of NIU football.

89,000 fans at $40 ticket is $3,560,000. The $820,000 they paid NIU doesn't put much of a dent in that number.

RE: Nebraska AD Fired
and don't forget parking and concessions and BIG TV money.........and filling those 15,000 seats 17 times a season..and all the premium boxes in both arenas and all the HUGE donor money.............
OldtimeNIU gets it and put it all in proper perspective with this post in a Fire Carey thread:
"It is amazing the huge amount of expertise is in this particular conversation...recruiting, coaching, hiring coaches, play calling, officiating, talent evaluation....by people like me with some or no experience in any of those areas.
Fire Carey? I say we should be lucky to have retained Carey...programs like NIU have two things happen...the coach is successful and moves on eg PJ Fleck or he is bad and is let go. Is he another Nick Saban? Of course not! Is he a good coach? The program is doing pretty well so I say he's doing all right.
A program like NIU's replaces assistant coaches like a fast food restaurant replaces workers. He has managed to bring in replacement coaches that have helped maintain success...a head coach is only as good as the people he surrounds himself with. I give him a solid B in his efforts here.
How many MAC and other group of 5 programs would like to have had NIUs record since Joe Novak was hired? I'd say a hell of a lot of them.
So you want to become a Power 5 school? what is needed? lots and lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Wonder how Oklahoma State got to this point this season? T Boone Pickens and his several millions of dollars that he has donated to the program in recent years.
Firie Carey? B##l S##t"

I think Herbstreit has a partial point in that twitter rant with Nebraska fans, this is not the Nebraska powerhouse of old, I think this move was a huge overreaction.

Honestly kinda weird to see an AD fired for bad football. Usually it takes scandal or general breakdown of everything or both to end an AD.

Yeah the pitchforks are out in full force, and I guess that might be literally in the Heartland.

plus the $1 mil to cancel the Soldier Field game. NIU is costing Nebraska a lot of money, no matter who you are.

'We can and should win,' chancellor says.
yeesh. i get that football is big business, but i figured it was always something that was said between the lines, with chancellors/university leadership always espoused values on academics and the importance of education. yada yada yada.

Not in Nebraska where cornhusker football is like a cult. I haven't seen anyone comment on the disrespect this firing screams at NIU. As if losing to school that beats most BIG schools it plays is such an embarrassment and someone one of these corny clowns called NIU a "directional school." I hope they lose out the rest of the way---or better yet, win out and show how good NIU actually is.

I will be rooting for Nebraska to win all of their remaining games this season! The AD got a check for $1.6 million on his way out the door, hard to feel too bad for him.

I had a sentence or two trying to verbalize as such, but I couldn't get it to flow right making the comment say "fired for losing to NIU, but would he have been fired for losing to Rutgers or Illinois, two teams we might be favored over?"
