They have begun their FBS transition this season and are not eligible for the playoffs this year.

https://pilotonline.com/sports/college/e...e91eb.html

"Liberty will play a transition season this fall, when the Flames face a full Big South schedule but won’t be eligible for the league championship or the FCS playoffs. The Flames join FBS in 2018, but can’t go to a bowl unless there aren’t enough eligible teams to fill every bowl slot. They will be bowl eligible in 2019."

That's correct. It's up to the individual schools as to when they begin their transition. Many are trying to relate it to ODU and their playoff run in 2012 but that was not their first year of transition. They new they were leaving and had informed the conference they would be leaving, so the conference said, you can play your schedule but cannot win the CAA title nor receive our autobid. That had nothing to do with the NCAA, it was a conference thing. Their two years of transition were 2013 and 2014.

You are not really eligible for FCS playoffs or bowls either of those two years. The NCAA did set a small remote provision to allow the second year of a transitioning school to go to a bowl just in case their were not enough qualified candidates, though that takes a lot of cards to fall just right.

RE: Other Games 9-16
I don't believe a single team has ever actually been to a bowl in their final transition year. It's a potential, but it's never happened to date.

Bowls are now taking 5 win teams, so the field of 5 win teams in FBS each year is always enough to where they'll never entertain a transitioning team.

OK good. Well then I wish STATS would cut them from the top 25 poll. Thats what was throwing me off. I couldn't remember which was their first transition year; this or next year.

Someone was actually giving Haley grief on twitter for bothering to include them in his poll since they're transitioning and his excuse was "we've done it for others in the past and they're still fcs so they can be on it". Coaches poll won't consider a transitioning team. AGS won't consider one either.

Their baylor win has lost a lot of its shine too. Baylor may end up being the worst Big 12 team this season. They're already 0-3.

RE: Other Games 9-16
Speaking of Liberty, I am curious to see how their upcoming game at Jax State goes. Well, more to see about JSU because I couldn't give less of a rat's nut about LU.

I've seen Jax State in both of their games this season (win over Chattanooga and loss at Ga Tech). They have a lot of team speed on the defensive side of the ball along with 2 terrific linebackers who may end up playing in the NFL one day. They also have the former Mr. Football in the state of Alabama (Roc Thomas, Auburn transfer IIRC) at running back who is a game-breaker on any play. And, they'll get him 25+ touches a game if they can hoping for that big play.

I think JMU and NDSU are the class of D1AA as most do, but the jury is out on JSU. The OVC has played some P5 teams tough this season though I don't think they got over the hump with any W's. They could - and I stress "could" - be that 3rd team to get into the mix of teams who have a strong chance at getting to Fresno. We'll see a little more this upcoming Saturday.

Yep, concur completely, they are certainly in the mix of the next best five or six teams after us and the Bison.

That 3rd team could be SDSU. We won't find out until 11/4 though, with NDSU @ SDSU. Course 1 or both could have a loss by then, as both several ranked MVFC to face beforehand, including both @ YSU.

UNC -10 (opened at -7?) might have been the easiest bet all season. Ran that as a parley giving another half point (-10.5) with the over (55.5) and tripled my money real quick.

Hoping VT beating up on ECU doesn't make a crazy opening line for ODU@VT. VT giving less than 25 and o/u of 58ish will be a good opportunity to triple money again next weekend.

For any gamblers out there (we should get a thread going if there are enough on here) VT opened -26. Pretty rich but being in Blacksburg and ODU's swiss cheese defense, I don't see how VT scores <45. Hoping Fuente gets in their @$$ for the slow ECU start and ODU gives up by half. I do fear some early rest for the VT starters as they have Clemson the following week.

Liberty got thrashed 48-19 in last year's matchup in Lynchburg. they allowed 7.4 yds/rush, and that was before Thomas showed up. That kid is a friggin' monster. I sure hope the final result is similar to last year's game.

CAA will never top that epic tailgating video. I had no idea how unbelievable their tailgating was! If not for the Richmond shirts I never would have been able to tell a difference between them and an SEC school.
I need to sit down with a word search and some warm milk to overcome that excitement. Whew!!!

That was one of those tailgating videos that they need to just admit to his camera man, "okay this is awful. lets just punt this idea this week and not actually bother to edit, let alone post, such a dull scene".

so many old, crusty spiders.

Part of me wants to look up if UR was really ranked #1 in 1985 for the first seven weeks to see if it was just drunk stat bullshitting haha.

I am positive UR had moved down to 1AA by '85 and it is a real possibility they were #1 in 1AA by beating Tech the first week. Probably legit.
