How can you play a game if the National Guard is using the stadium as a staging area?

Unsure why it has to be at ucf's football stadium. Like someone mentioned the Citrus Bowl just sits empty.

But, can you entertain the possibility that even though you are unsure as to why it had to be the UCF football stadium (and not say the Citrus Bowl), that doesn't mean the governor's office is? That maybe they have information that you don't?

That's what's strange about this thread: Lots of folks who clearly want a football game to be played saying the National Guard staging could have been done some other way, even though they don't know that it could have been done some other way.

then why not play the game at the citrus bowl instead. have the national guard at spectrum, and play the game at the citrus bowl. how hard is that to pull off? the place is sitting empty.

Naw he made the right choice. UCF needs to regroup

I can see both sides of this issue.

UCF fans are upset to have a SECOND straight home game cancelled. That's money lost.

The Governor has a duty to the citizens after the damage by Irma.

If UCF had their players come back late Monday to begin preparing for Maryland, perhaps the Governor would've looked elsewhere. But safety for the citizens and the support to get people back on their feet must take priority. I know it sucks, and I feel for UCF and its team and the fan base.

I would almost argue would it even be worth paying money to see a team that's probably going to be distracted and ill prepared to play against a team that is well prepared.

That's an honorable thing to do. I'm not sure why this upsets you given what just happened in Florida.

Why didn't he offer UF's campus? There's an empty stadium in Downtown Orlando with more than enough space to use.

Lakeland has plenty of open space, much closer to easy interstate access? Why UCF? Rick Scott has done ZERO favors for UCF, why should we do anything for him?

You know, sometimes being a good human is about more than just scratching each other's backs.

I'm sure you'd be saying exactly the same thing if Houston cancelled the Texas Tech and Rice games because of Harvey and an incompetent governor.

Houston was given multiple options for practice. Team stayed together, missed one game, but was practicing and together. Sounds like UCF pulled amateur hour.

RE: GT @ UCF cancelled.
All I'm trying to say is that every main city in the state was affected. Orlando was not hit as bad as Tampa and Southern Florida. Yes, we had power outages, but a lot has been restored already. Every team in the state has athletes from Florida. Why is UCF the only team stuck giving up a second game?
Secondly, why must the national guard stage in a stadium? Why not the citrus bowl then, or the cfl fairgrounds?
Why couldnt UCF play in the Citrus bowl. Im sorry, Orlando was not hit by a monster storm, it was a bad wind storm that took down trees and cosmetic stuff on houses. This in turn caused power outages. Orlando area only received 7 to 12 inches of rain. There was no catastrophic flooding.
Tampa had worse of a storm. Southern Florida got hammered even worse than Tampa.
What the hell am I missing?

Because how hard an area got hit isn't the only thing that matters.

E.g. Tampa was hit harder than Orlando, but the logistical resources are such that the Bucs stadium is available for USF vs Illinois this Friday. That isn't the case in Orlando and UCF's stadium.

Your question is kind of like asking "person A got stung by 10 bees and person B got stung by only 2, so why did B die but not A"? Well, other factors were in play, e.g., A might have be a young healthy person, B might be 90 years old and very frail, A might not suffer bee venom allergies while B might be highly sensitive, etc.

See, that's a good question. But it is a question, meaning the answer is unknown. You might be correct that the game could have been played at the Citrus Bowl, but, there also might be reasons why it couldn't. The problem here is that many angry Knights fans are acting as if they know the game could have been played at the Citrus Bowl, when in fact none of you know that.

So if I were you, I wouldn't go around angry because I assume the game could have been played at the Citrus Bowl. I'd ask a UCF admin why it couldn't. 07-coffee3

For as much of a big fat question mark this disaster is leaving on the ucf AD decision making..... his official announcement should have included reasons why they couldnt move the game to the citrus bowl. As far as im concerned, their official statement leaves too many question marks on what their effort was to reschedule. They owe that to their fans, and quite frankly, the players. I dont think they are happy with this decision. This was a nasty storm, but lets not pretend this was a Harvey or Katrina with the destruction and loss of life here in Florida.

Irma

Without power 10 million

Harvey

Damage $16 billion
Without power 1.1 million

And Irma kills the Andrew numbers too. No idea about Katrina. A little more than a nasty storm. I'm likely not getting power until Monday. That said there was no reason to cancel the ucf game.
