There's this place in Germantown called Taco Bell...they do a solid bean burrito. Maybe they'll open a few more as they seem to be on to something there.

Just because Germantown has the cult-like restrictions on chains looking like chains doesn't mean Taco Bell isn't a massive national fast food joint.

Midtown has a long standing one at Poplar and Belvedere. Way ahead of the curve.

Heck, the one near Poplar Plaza used to be where the Starbucks is but was torn down and placed in the spot next door where Midway Cafe used to be.

The one at Poplar & Belvedere used to be next door also. They tore town a place called Pierotti's and built the new one just like they tore down Midway Café.

When I was an undergrad they had a buffet that served pizza and fried chicken.

So by that, you mean rude counter service, no alcohol & incredibly overpriced food?

Las Tortugas is good food - their scallop torta is amazing, but their prices are ridiculous for some of the plainer things, esp. with all the real deal tortas up & down Summer.

You'll rarely interact with Pepe anymore if you go. Jonathan has the germantown parkway location and is always very nice. The guy that manages the poplar location is also nice.

El Porton is the WORST out of all the "mexican-ish" restaurants now, IMO.

Ha ha. That's my cousin, Fran Triplett, who posted that. She is the one who got into a verbal fight with one of the Fords at the City Council last year and whose policeman husband ran up into the Ford Funeral Home and asked to speak to said Ford, and got a suspension for it.

I will let you draw your own conclusion about her, but I would take whatever she says with a grain of salt. She hates Memphis with a passion, and never misses a chance to diss it.

My cousin shared and confirmed it on her timeline as to what happened. Dana lives and works in Memphis. Been there her entire life so no reason to doubt what they both witnessed during lunch.

Really good. Tacos are basically $4-$5 each, decent sized. They have "skillets" w/ rice, corn, and black beans w/meat choice and other stuff for $10.
