I've found, in our transition to a new conference and the FBS, message board activity helps me to care about teams/games I wouldn't otherwise.

I'm not saying we are great and that you guys aren't. That's what I keep trying to explain. If we had beaten UMass like y'all did and people were saying how great we are, then I'd be saying the same thing about us, except that we have been FBS for years and you haven't. As a program we have a lot we have nice wins over Saban led Alabama, #8 Arkansas, Kentucky, 2 wins against Wake Forest, and Mississippi St. Admittedly our last P5 win was 2013, but I would put our premiere game wins against anyone in the conference. But again, you guys may stomp us this year. I was just saying a win over UMass doesn't make y'all the 2nd coming. As a newbie you have more to prove. And I wasn't even really talking to Coastal fans. You guys haven't made any of those claims. In fact replace Coastal with any other team I'd say the same. We also don't know if ULM is good either. We played a competitive game against a good team in a monsoon. They may have curb stomped us in clear weather, but we have a tough game this weekend and will find out a lot more. We could ask the same question about ULM. Other than having a coach that people believe in, what the hell has your team done recently to make anyone in this conference believe you're a contentnder? Beating UMASS does not make us top notch Sun belt by any means. But quite frankly, ULM doesn't have much in their arsenal of self validation either. Glass houses and such.

First off Arrowhead is nice guy and didn't mean anything by his comments. I wouldn't get upset. He even clarified his comments so we can move on from that.

What did I say? That you're not beating us? Sorry I am confident we will beat you guys this year. You guys lost a chunk of your players and we return a large portion of our team second year in the system and another year with a real strength coach. I wouldn't take offense to comments.

No one from ULM has said we're a contender this year to answer your question. We don't believe we're contenders this year so we can move on from that topic too.
We believe we have a good shot to be a good team in 2018. Contend for the title in 2018 as a Dark horse yes. We lose 4 starters and only 8 seniors.

Well the fact remains UMASS isn't even close to being the best win in SBC. They have won 10 games in last 5 seasons. UNM won 9 last year. To even mention it maybe the best win isn't a bright comment. Please stop! Nothing against you guys but damn I thought I was sensitive. Dude it's UMASS they lost 50 games the last 5 years it's not like it's a big deal.

They are set to balance action on both sides so that books can profit from the vig. However, if there were a better indicator of game outcomes than Vegas odds then someone would use that and Vegas would be out of business.

There is not a better publicly available indicator of game outcomes than Vegas odds.

It has nothing to do with predicting game outcomes. It has everything to do with predicting the betting public's perception of game outcomes.

Therefore, it's safe to assume that most of the betting public is not going to think a first year FBS team is going to win any given FBS game in their first season. So how do you balance the betting action on both sides? It's simple. You lower the expectations for Coastal on the betting line to try and entice people to take Coastal in their bet.

So if you're predicting a first year FBS team to win, you better keep the spread low so you can still entice people to take them.

It doesn't mean you think Coastal will only win by 3....it means that you think the betting public won't have confidence in a first year FBS squad.

That's what you see reflected there, and you'll see it all year when you look at the lines on Coastal games.
