RE: New CAA TV deal in the works
Congrats to Bourne on this one - best we could hope for after the CAA commish wet the bed. With that being said we need to pack Bridgeforth for every home game from now thru the 3 home playoff games. Given the competitive home CAA schedule, incredible talent on our roster and amazing coaching staff we have, there is no excuse for all the regular season games not being sold out on game week. As always the simplest way to see the game is to be there in person. Spread the word to come out and support our championship team throughout the season. Go Dukes !

Great job by Bourne and JMU getting a TV deal worked out. Thank you for doing what the CAA could not get done.

RE: New CAA TV deal in the works
Greg Madia's story with JB comments.
https://jamesmadison.rivals.com/news/duk...tv-package

Starting to see some of the $$$$$ numbers behind making these things happen. Glad they got it done. $150K to get some TV cameras on you for 5 games is not an easy up front price to swallow.

Quote:JMU assistant athletic director for communications Kevin Warner said production cost per home game is $30,0000, but that includes the production company and transmission fees.

“We hope to recoup some of that investment via commercial inventory,” Warner said. “The caveat to that is we are getting a late start on selling season-long sponsorship deals for TV, but we should be able to make some revenue.”

Through Learfield Sports, JMU can sell advertisements for the televised games.

“It is a significant cost for our program,” Bourne said. “And obviously we have to work with our budget and we have an authorized budget to live within for the year, so we have to make sure there are enough dollars allocated there to cover it.

“It’s a discussion that [JMU senior vice president] Charlie King and I have every time we talk about when there’s significant material to the athletic budget, but Charlie is very supportive of the television package to make sure we were in a position to do that.”

RE: New CAA TV deal in the works
I hate to do this. I HATE to do this. I do cause I'm happy with the deal BUT, if spending 0.3% of our annual expenses from FY16 to be on TV for 5 home games (not including additional revenue from sponsorship/commercials or additional sales/donations) is a tough to swallow, Borne and Co. are back on my **** list.

"Significant cost?" C'mon on man!

I consider our $5.9M 'Direct overhead and administrative expenses' to be significant when compared to ODU's $2.9M. I consider our 'Game expenses' of $2.5M to be significant compared to ODU's $1.4M. I consider our $1.4M 'Fundraising, marketing and promotion' compared to ODU's $0.6M to be significant. Seems like there is ~$5M that can help support the 'significant cost' of $150k (which revenue should help offset).

.3% of a $44M budget (that also brings in new revenue streams) isn't 'material,' to call it such is just crazy.

More than the amount, it's probably the timing. Public school budgets are usually VERY tight. Sure, they build in some breathing room, but not much.

Interesting to see we are using MASN and CSN talent to broadcast our games while Delaware and RU are using their own school's announcers. I bet that added some to the cost.

I know he has the Wizards to attend to (or at least I think he still does), but would love to see JMU Alum, Steve Buckhantz, get to call a Dukes game.

He's not doing Wizards games until at least October (I think that's when their preseason starts). He could always be available for most of September unless he's on vacation.

He's easily one of the best sports commentators I can think of. I really watch Wizards games just to hear him and Phil Chenier (he's gone now btw) talk to each other. He references JMU consistently throughout a season too.

Are we bloated, or is ODU super lean?

Let's say it's somewhere in the middle.... if we do some cost-cutting, that ~$2.5M sure would go a long way toward the FBS costs (and maybe leave some over for professor bonuses, tied to performance of course 03-wink

I agree, I think it is the timing more than the actual amount of money. Presumably this was an unexpected cost since I would guess our admins, like us, expected the CAA to have a tv deal....I think Bourne and King and whoever else helped make this happen did a great job in a (presumably) short period of time.

CAA releasing an updated FB TV schedule... http://www.caasports.com/news/2017/9/6/c...ckage.aspx

Joey D should have released a big THANK YOU to the schools for doing the work (his work?) to make this happen. 01-wingedeagle

Just another thing to point out how bad the CAA has become, go to the bottom of the page in the above link and you will see that apparently Hofstra brought back football and Maine has left CAA Football. 03-lmfao

Wow they pass it off as if the league did all this. Not even a minor reference to schools working hard to get their own schedule.

Excellent catch. Man, that is really pathetic.

Maybe Joey D and his gang of incompetents will understand Robert D...

I'm guessing they haven't updated the program guides yet. For this week on CSN+, often that doesn't even show as a channel via TV listings at tvguide.com or zap2it.com or similar sites. I did check MASN2 on Sep. 16 at 3pm and it is not showing the NSU-JMU game yet. Still showing German soccer replays at the moment.

Checked the ETSU game again and I second Potomac's motion. Confirmed on The Comcast Network (ch. 8 for me) on my Comcast-Xfinity guide.

No update on the NSU game yet for me though.
