Tar Heel is a nickname applied to the U.S. state of North Carolina and its inhabitants. ... The nickname was given during the U.S. Civil War, because of the state's importance on the Confederate side, and the fact that the troops "stuck to their ranks like they had tar on their heels".
If removing these statues truly helps racial reconciliation and healing in our country than by all means remove them. Id rather have unity than the confederate legacy that very few truly i understand and are tied to in this day and age.
But
Then what?
After all the confederate statues are removed do we take the next step and remove the memorials from slave owning founding fathers? They were just as guilty of promoting slavery as the confederates. They were Even worse, you could argue, as their actions laid the evil practice of slavery in the foundation of our nation.
When does the fighting end and the healing begin?

The NCAA has then in Nashville today. I fully expect a sternly worded reprimand and cross look from the NCAA as they punish ECU for UNC's transgressions.

I wonder what they call it these days....
never gave it a second thought.....
they could've called it, "Imma gonna git ya sucka".....still wouldn't have changed the game unless one has to be "packing" as a requirement.....
that's prolly how it's played today....
Well, one of my favorite Disney movies as a kid was "Song of the South", which incorporated the stories of Uncle Remus including Br'er Rabbit and the Tar Baby. That movie has been banned for a while. I never thought of the movie in racist terms back them. Its a shame kids can't enjoy it today because it is a wonderful piece of animation, beautifully told, great songs and dance, etc.

A couple of years ago my sister in law bought my kid's some classic Looney Tunes DVDs. The Cartoons are all from the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s. They are all absolutely brilliantly written and animated and the kids absolutely love watching them (as do I). There are so many things in these cartoons that would rile up the SJW types today -- the blackface, Japanese/Chinese stereotypes, cross-dressing characters, whistling/howling at beautiful women, the nagging housewife who beats her husband over the head with a roller pin, etc.
The fact that we can't laugh at ourselves anymore has made this country worse.

Kind of sucks.. that there's a guy at my flea market who sells those DVD's.. I went in one day and realized he had a huge gap on his shelf where a lot of them were.
He basically said, one guy bought them all, just so he could keep them out of the reach of children.
BRING BACK SPEEDY GONZALEZ!! :)
Or as tim Slagle once joked: "They have no problem offending the French Americans... they still have Pepe LePeau... incredibly stinky, oversexed... If that's not a stereotype I don't know what is"
