Haven't seen that anywhere but the fake Rosenthal account.

Looked really bad - cleats just slipped off the bag and hit the dirt terribly. Kinda looked like he hyperextended. Damn.

I bet the Nats owners are mighty thrilled that they decided to be cheap and play that game after a long rain delay, rather than just send the fans home

it's not the Nats owners that do it. Those decisions are made by MLB according to what I saw last night.

Well then MLB needs to worry less about the immediate bottom line

Significant bone bruise but no ligament damage. Looks like the Nats finally got some injury luck

its just remarkable that it would only be a bone bruise. It looked definitely 100 times worse than that....

I haven't seen anyone say it was or wasn't. Bone bruise is definitely a potential outcome of knee hyperextension.

Kluber with a pretty good start today. Looks like quickly a 2.4 point start in that tracker.

Sale with an opening tonight to put down the hammer.

7/4/1/2/12 is a decent hammer

RE: 2017 MLB Season Thread
yeah.

Do think Sale has a chance if he continues to pitch really well to get not only the Cy Young, but MVP as well.

Did see Kluber 1st pitcher in AL history though to have I think it's now 14 straight starts with 8 or more k's. He's had a great season here....

RE: 2017 MLB Season Thread
I think Sale's in the running for MVP but I think that Altuve, if he keeps playing as he has (and there's no reason to think he won't) probably gets it. Sale would, I think, have to do something really special (no hitter maybe?) to beat him out. 300 Ks will help. I know most voters don't look at WAR, but there are some remarkable things going on:
- Andrelton Simmons leads all of MLB in bWAR. My first reaction was "huh?". Yep, his offensive numbers are good but his defense is so freakishly good that his bWAR is 6.4. Does he have a shot at MVP? I can't imagine he does. (Worth noting that his fWAR has him in the top 10 of MLB but more than 1.0 behind leaders).
- Mike Trout has 160ish fewer PAs than most other AL leaders but he's STILL only 0.6 fWAR behind Altuve and Judge (5.3 vs 5.9). By season end he'll probably be #2, but he may not even qualify for MVP.
- Scherzer, by bWAR, is not only the leading candidate for Cy Young but also for NL MVP. Speaking of Nats, Harper and Rendon also among NL WAR leaders. You look at that team and, while maybe the depth could be improved, the top end talent is insane.

RE: 2017 MLB Season Thread
I would argue that look at the lineup the Nats threw out there tonight in the night cap.... Sure had Murphy, Rendon, Zimmerman(he's back- 126 wRC+ in August). But had in there as well Difo, Kendrick(who hit the GW Grand Slam), Taylor, Wieters.

The thing Dusty said last night that's remarkable- the Nats have used 11 outfielders now this year. How many teams could say that and still be 14 games in front? Harper is great- but they've gotten help from guys like Taylor, Goodwin, Lind, Kendrick, and Raburn. The Nats are extremely deep- and when everyone gets healthy- they're going to have a 13-14 man offense that will be tough. I mean the Nats could have a starting 8 of Harper, Taylor, and Werth in the OF, Rendon, Turner, Murphy, Zimmerman in the IF, and Wieters behind the dish- and then a bench of Lind, Kendrick, Goodwin, Difo, Drew, and then Lobaton as the backup catcher. Not sure there's a deeper team in the NL.

As far as Sale, I just don't think the 300 k threshold means anywhere near as much as you want to make it out to be. I mean, 10 of the 65 times it's happened in MLB history have come in the last 21 years. So the shine isn't anywhere near as great as it used to be. Thing that hurt Sale in the MVP stuff tonight is that he didn't get a win. You'd need to get 20 to have any shot- and he's stuck on 14. You figure he's only got now 8 more starts left this year(is scheduled for last day I think but wouldn't make that if it didn't mean anything). So would need 6 wins in final 8 starts to get 20.

oh, and saw this about Kluber.... he's got 14 straight starts with 8+ k's. The only guy who did it more than that- Randy Johnson 2x with 15 starts.

Dodgers have only used 10; I guess THAT'S why they're 18 in front.

Interesting how you left out pitchers.

Quote:Not sure there's a deeper team in the NL.

I can think of one.

Quote:As far as Sale, I just don't think the 300 k threshold means anywhere near as much as you want to make it out to be.

Oh, FFS. I've never said it's terribly meaningful, but I have said it's a separator. Here, I said "it helps", as in, it's better than nothing. I think 300 K's is more useful in a race with Kluber, where all other things are equal-ish. But for MVP? It's nothing more than a minor enhancement. For a pitcher to win an MVP they need: 1) for the best offensive guys to be having very good but not great years, and 2) to have something really special on the resume. I think Altuve is having a terrific year, and while Sale looks good (at the moment) for the Cy Young, I'm just not seeing that extra something that gets him MVP. As an example, Kershaw's MVP in 2014: 21-3, 1.77 ERA, and he still only got 18 of 30 first place votes. He beat out Giancarlo Stanton who was having a very good year but not as good as Altuve's 2017.
