I know that is not much but I am a man of modest means. I ended up selecting late Thursday. I was bumped out of 119 Row K (4 seats). I ended up going across the field to 107, but much higher KK. I am ok with these tickets. I am more worried about MBB. I love my present seats. Last year was my first MBB season tickets and I was given 111 Row M (4 seats). I am considering increasing my ODAF contribution to $1,000. My first question, are their sections reserved for contributors over $1000 in MBB like FB? Second, I know it is hard to speculate, but is an increase from $500 to $1000 going to make a meaningful difference in MBB reseating? It is my fourth year ODAF and FB tickets. Second year of MBB season tickets. First year of WBB. Finally, am I correct in understanding there will be WBB reseating? I would really appreciate your thoughts. Thank you.

I see nobody responded to you. My gut instinct is you should NOT increase your donation now. I am a man of efficiency, and it would have been a much better decision to increase your donation so you could have also gotten better football seats as well. That time has passed. I also believe there's less demand for basketball these days than football. Plus if you visit these boards often, you would think that the basketball program is in the dumpster. I don't think it's that bad, but it's also not exactly the most exciting product we've ever had. We also don't have much hype going into this season after an early exit in the CUSA tournament and no post season play. I think you should be okay to get close to your seats with $500 donation.

Having said all that, I am by no means 100% knowledgeable on this and my word is as good as anyone else's. Also, shoutout to section 111 it's the best section in the universe.

I agree with most of this. Gotta remember that not all football people buy basketball tickets. Something else you may consider is calling an ODAF rep and voicing your concern. They're pretty good about knowing how much donation will get you where, and would probably let you know if you were in good shape or not.

Thank you all for the recommendations. I did speak with an ODAF rep. who was extremely helpful. I ended up shaking down all my friends and family members to join ODAF so I could get the 25 point referrals.

Another good idea would be to reduced prices on hotels and travel for away games instead of the outrageous prices they charge. Perhaps stickers, house flags, and other small tokens of appreciation for being donors. There are many ways to show appreciation to donors.

They reward loyalty points for prior season tickets. But to want them to reward season tickets for loyalty and loyalty alone? Hogwash. If I give more than you and attain more points, I deserve the better seats. It's pretty simple.

Promotions? What, like the Baze bobble head they gave out? Or the emails I get every few weeks telling me ODU gear is on sale?

And they show their appreciation in different ways. In my 3 years of giving (17-18 will be year 4) since graduation, I have been hosted each bball season in their suites. You also get the personal touch with an athlete, who you've directly helped support, call to thank you each semester. To me that's much better than some dumb shirt. I'm sure others on here have their own reward stories.

And stickers? They've been sending those things in the mail for years. I have 3 on my cooler right now.

House flags? Theyre like $14. Go to Taylor's and buy one. That's the last thing I want them spending my donation on. I want it to go towards facilities, the best staff they can get, recruiting expenses and the athlete's education.

You want to spend less, change your donation and live with the results. Or forgo it all together and say buh bye to all the ODAF perks that aren't good enough for you.
Wait a minute. We've been donating to ODAF since 2008 and I've received a couple of stickers but that's been it. How did you get all that stuff?

Me either. I haven't gotten any of that stuff, and I don't really care, but that's just me. I don't necessarily agree or disagree with either side of this argument, but I think some folks are being far too dismissive about the value of the AD showing appreciation to ALL of its donors. While I personally don't care about getting swag or discounted seats, I do think that the AD could do a much better job of not giving the appearance that all they care about is milking every dollar they can from the donors they have. I also think they could do a much better job of broadening the tent.

I had FB season tickets at Michigan for a few years when I lived in Ann Arbor. I was on the low end of the donors, but I was a small fish in a very big pond. The AD did not shower normal season ticket owners (who paid a significant seat license) with freebies or discounts. Of course, they would name a building after you if you wrote a big enough check. They did provide seat cushions on the FB bleachers, but you had to pay $40 a year for that. ODU's plan to add real seats is amazing. The prevailing thought among UM fans I know is that the best thing the AD can do for season ticket holders is to put the best possible teams on the fields, courts, pools and golf courses. Apart from the altruistic desire to help ODU, winning is what fills seats and keeps donations flowing. That is especially true at ODU, which doesn't have money to spare on freebies.

Huge difference between UM and ODU ! There is a huge demand for UM tickets. They have to do promos to essentially get people to buy tickets.

Was out in Southampton County this weekend. What do I see?!? A big beautiful billboard promoting freaking LIBERTY FOOTBALL!?!? We barely have a presence in the southside. Meanwhile VCU has billboards in Hampton and now Liberty football in west Hampton Roads. Cmon ODU, we made a decision to go big time. It's time we started acting like it.

Exactly...plus when you travel around the state you very rarely see anything ODU. Also when you travel through various regions you can tell what university is in that region. ODU should be dominating the market, promotionals, and advertising in the 7 cities region.

An ODU Football billboard went up at the I-264/I-64 interchange this week and will stay up through the start of football season. If you're coming from the beach and take I-64 north toward the HRBT you'll see it immediately on the driver's side.

I know they have a couple locally, but we need to expand. ODU football should have a major presence everywhere east of 95 and south of the York River. Saturate that area. VCU covers from Hampton to Fredericksburg to Charlottesville, while Liberty is covering areas 4 hours away evidently. I saw JMU shirts in Target in flipping Maryland 2 weeks ago. We market like we are FCS and that won't cut it. Richmond to Emporia to Va Beach to Yorktown should be ODU country.

Not to be all negative. That billboard location is very visible and a good small start. I hope ODU keeps that location permanently and puts basketball up later and academic focused messages up in the off seasons.

The point is that the huge demand for UM tickets did not come from promotions, it came from years of winning and that discounts and swag is not what keeps ticketholders. I am fine with promotions to generate young alumni interest and advertising within reason, including the new FB television spot. I just can't see giving freebies and discounts to existing season ticket holders.

For those that haven't purchased season tickets yet, the promo code HOT will get you half off the second season ticket. I believe the code is only good through tomorrow.

No. Sadly that Vacant Thoughts stuff sells well over the state.

In a move that I'm sure will send certain members of the board over the edge this came in the Valpak today:

This isn't a bad idea. There can't get that many seats left to sell at this point and this will get in the hands of people that have probably never had tickets before.

An ODU chemistry lab could invent a wonder drug that cures all forms of cancer, aids, ALS and the common cold and some people on here would have a problem with it.

I would guess those seats are in the end zone too. I got stuck in the end zone one season and believe me... it sucked. I upped my ODAF to make sure I never sat there again. Way to tight, way too drunk and a bad vantage point with no scoreboard view all make it a tough sell. $100 is about right for those seats.

I believe this year ALL season tickets are sideline seats. End zones are for students, band, and visitors only.

There are more VT yard signs and car stickers neighborhood (Colonial Place) than ODU. Makes sense for the VT stuff to be in our area.

Our school isn't doing enough to advertise the brand.
