RE: 2017/18 mens basketball
Not really news, but just kind of funny...
I sometimes go to the USBasketball site to check up of formar Golden Flashes playing in Europe. They currently have Kent State's starting five as:
PG Jon Fleming
SF Rosel Hurley
C Leo Edwards
PF Alonzo Walker
SG Jerelle DeBerry
I don't know how they determine these before the season, but 4 of these have left the team.

Glad to see Sullinger onboard. I always felt like he had a very high basketball IQ.

Erickson was a former JUCO head coach so he probably brings some juco recruiting connections we lost with Steinberg leaving. Interesting he played at Rhode Island. Jim Christian connection might have played a role here.
Glad to see Sullinger back in the fold. His dad isn't a high school coach anymore but the Sullinger name should open some recruiting doors in Columbus. I imagine he'll be able to teach our post players a thing or two as well. Imagine how much money he would've made if he was De La Rosa's size.

If you think about it the one constant since the Kent program has been consistently good is having low post players with good-to-excellent offensive low post fundamentals ... Whorton, GErwig, Edwards, Sullinger, Green, Hall ... not a lot of programs can say that.
(Aside .. Q made up for lack of offense with elite defense)
Yes ... the game is being legislated to be all about perimeter shooting, but late February into March scoring inside looks like it still becomes more and more of a premium.

Good to hear. Anyone know what the "other provisions" the article references for continuing success are? I'm guessing it has to do with recruiting budget and what not.

If one provision is to win home games against lackluster conference opponents, I can get on board with that. Although I am half kidding I hope this extension is a sign of good things to come.

Since he has been THE COACH, how many players have left the program before finishing their career?

A lot, same as pretty much every school.

I'm sure but I go see Kent play. It seems that each year we have players that need to be replaced-not through graduation, though.

As a guess, I would say about two per year. Considering there have been 750 or so transfers every year (and 350 D1 schools) that's a good guess I would say.
I will also say it looks like Kent is slowly coming around to having the right roster formula (for this era of basketball) -- of young rising talent, incoming freshmen, plus two or three transfers and/or redshirts sitting out.
Like it or not (and I'm not a particular fan) ... this is the makeup of a college basketball roster these days.
It's the coaches who have to make it all work.

Hope part of Sendy's deal is more pay for his assistants.

Per Eric Haut's Twitter account (@CoachEKentState), Tulane transfer Kain Harris told ESPN he is headed to Kent State. A 6'4" shooting guard. Played two years at Tulane, so should have two years of eligibility after he sits a year. Looks promising.
