BullsFanInTx,
If you have spectrum, all you need is the internet. In my area the highest you can get 300MPS, I have been doing it over a year. I actually had to get Internet and Lifeline cable to get a $40 discount instead of just what internet only would cost.
I will say with Roku, you can use the spectrum app so I get my locals. I also advise buying your on Modem, it pays for itself in one year. I use PSVUE for the DVR and get access to about every game and event I want but I don't get CBSSPORTS. In your case, you may need to do Hulu or Sling. No reason to be paying 200 bucks a month.
If you do Hulu, let me know how the ROKU interface with life goes. Only thing I can't stand about PSVUE on ROKU. My Fire blows away the ROKU PSVUE interface.
The problem is us old timers are afraid to cut the cord and don't really understand all these new options. All we know is cable, have had it the past 25-30 years.
Bull,
I am 80's college graduate and it was not difficult. Basically there is no cord cutting. You still need the Spectrum Cable or any other service that may be in your area like FIOS or AT&T run to your house for cable unless you get your service via WIFI. I only have spectrum. I still like the cable run for more stabilty, old timer in me.
Since you want CBSSPORTS I would recommend sling over view, even though I think PSVUE provided far better DVR service and cheaper. The cost savings does not come with the package, it will come with the non rental of hardware. I pay ~90 a month for Spectrum Internet and lifeline cable, the old Locals and few extra cable. The wanted 130 if I only got internet, go figure. I spend ~45 on PSVUE. The savings comes with really with the stop leasing of Hardware.
Think about this like the old ATT in the 70's. Buy your own modem, $120 which is a 10 a month fee. In one year it pays for it self. Box rentals 5-10 a box. Lets say you go with the top of the Roku Box instead of Stick, and you want two again probably to have one for two seperate rooms, you can get them for 150. I would even say Box and stick to lower to about 100. Again in a year you recoup savings within a year.
Spectrum has an app for Roku, not amazon. Would love them to get Amazon but that is another story. The spectrum app works just like the TV listing. You also get access to Ondemand and Select Shows via the menu to watch later. It does not have DVR function for live events or skipping commercials but that is why I have view.
If you want to PM me, I will be glad to answer any other questions. I will say my 85 year old mom made us by her a ROKU TV and she loves it. If you can use Netflix or Hulu, you can do a live tv app.
