Key B-Ball Player for 2017-18 Season
Who do you think is the key player that needs to become a major force that will determine the success of the Basketball Team for the 2017-18 Season? My answer is T. Adway. While he has not performed up to expectations the previous two seasons, I think his upside is big at a position that needs someone to step up on a game to game basis for the Rockets to be successful. While the Point Guard position will be very key next season, I think we already have a proven commodity in J. Sanford available if both J.Roberts and M. Jackson are not ready to handle the position. Your thoughts?

I agree with Adway. Showed a few glimpses of athleticism this past season when he was able to get on the floor, which wasn't often.

After him, I think the next key is Logan Hill, because if Adway isn't ready to contribute, he's the next man up.

I guess my 3rd choice (yes--I'm hedging) would be Navigato. There were games when he played pretty good D and rebounded well; if he can continue to improve in those areas, it adds a dimension to his shooting/scoring (which can be streaky).

Everyone's fascinated by Adway because he can jump high. Jumping high is good for a basketball player, but there are so many other factors that I wonder why we obsess so much over this one. In fact, we've taken an old word, "athletic," which actually used to have its own meaning, and given it a new meaning altogether - "ability to jump high."

I think there are more questions than answers for next year's team. Best case scenario would be that we have three very good MAC players - Fletcher, Sanford, and W. Jackson - and that enough guys step up so that we don't have any glaring weaknesses. But we've never even seen Fletcher of Jackson play, which is why I say more questions than answers.

I would say that the key will be having at least one freshman contribute in a big way. Without that, we won't have enough depth to compete.

Navigato- didn't improve like Sanford last year but at 6'8", could help inside if he lived in the weight room this year. If he becomes a more complete player he could be a balm for our inside pain. Adway will get minutes because he has to but he, too, is a stick figure and has much further to go than Navi. I see Navi as potentially a three position player.

TK ... He has recruited athletes... now let them 'Play.' ... That means less regimentation and more free flow (not free lance). It may take half a season to find the core of what works (see WMU last year) but the end result can be worth it.
