I've come to the conclusion that the Democrats are pushing this stuff because they know that they lose on all the issues.

Socialized medicine-loser as proven over the last 6 years.
Unlimited immigration-they cry racist and won't even discuss who and how many we should let in.
Statist economy-virtually everyone knows it doesn't work and doesn't want Solyndra and other favored corporations getting direct subsidies.
Jobs-Hillary bragged about throwing people out of jobs.
Education-people know schools are bad, but Democrats are 100% behind the status quo.
Higher education-most people don't get college degrees and don't want free college education for the "elite."
Speech codes-anti-American and offensive to most people.
Foreign policy-Obama and Hillary were grossly incompetent, while overall policy hasn't been much different between the parties over the 3 decades.
Defense-Most people want a strong defense, not a hollowed out one trying to do the same things the Republicans were doing in foreign policy.

Democrats lose on the social issues now. They are the party pushing social issues over bread and butter. And the left has won in the Supreme Court on abortion and gay marriage where they had a slight advantage. They are pushing things to extremes now where their views are definitely in the minority.
