Wonder what the bid from Frisco/ The Star amounted to because you know that Birmingham and El Paso were about $1,000,000 as they usually are.

Cowboys have money so hopefully CUSA is getting paid. Conference tournaments are supposed to be revenue generators so it should be going to the highest bidder.

I'm jealous. Me and some friends made the last minute drive to New Orleans since TXST made the SBC Championship and New Orleans was fun and all of that but the shorter drive would be appreciated and all the Cowboys related stuff at the Star would be a bonus.

Bunch of crap the way I see it. It won't stay there forever.

At some point down the line it will need to be brought back to El Paso. Personally I get sick of the anti-El Paso hatred from the non-UTEP fans on here who bash El Paso for hosting the tournaments. UTEP fans have to travel long distances throughout this conference. As if no one can buy a ******* plane ticket! Sometimes I wonder if it's just hatred for the city of El Paso or just jealousy that El Paso has always shown great support for the UTEP basketball program and the history of success that Don Haskins brought here that these non-UTEP fans who complain about El Paso hosting the tournament on here really have for their bitching on here.

It will be back in El Paso eventually down the line whether they like it or not.

I think you got out bid by Frisco TX so this time it's no ones fault but your school or the city.

The conference could probably make more money playing this over a span of a week at the home court of the higher seed. Cost each school $100k to host each game and 140k for the championship. If a school does not want to pay the other team can host.

5000 fans in the stands at $20 a pop covers each game and the school gets to keep concession money to cover overhead. If you are in the championship and cant get 7,000 fans playing at home...

you pay it out of pocket

Western Kentucky fans WILL one day have to fly in to El Paso to experience the C-USA Basketball Tournaments for the first time. It will happen down the line, mark my word and mark it down...........

This one will make the drive and I have no problem playing at the highest bidder. But if I had my rather it would be in Biloxi or S. Fla or even Virginia Beach, or Houston. Anywhere with a beach and ocean close by

I'll explain this........when El Paso first hosted the C-USA Basketball Tournaments in 2011 El Paso had actually first bid to host in 2010 knowing it wasn't going to win because Tulsa was already going to get it. The plan for UTEP, the city of El Paso, El Paso County and the El Paso Convention and Visitors Bureau was to bid early knowing they were not going to get it but "plant the seed" so to say to get in 2011............which it worked in El Paso's favor when they were awarded the 2011 tournaments with a $1,000,000 bid. That's the way bidding works. Tulsa was originally awarded the 2009 tournament but had it taken away from them and gave it to Memphis so that's why El Paso knew it had to bid early with hopes to get it down the line eventually even though El Paso wasn't going to get it in 2010.

As long as it comes to Norfolk first.

Your complaints are the same as ours, just on different edges of the conference. At least now that it's in Dallas I have more reasons to go and it's a direct flight for us. I'll be there and I will actually have something to do if my team gets eliminated early. I don't see why everyone is moaning about this unless you are UAB, who I can't blame. I would be pissed too if I were used to having the tournament in my backyard after 3 years in a row.

I wish there were appropriate venues to have the tournament in Nashville.

Such a central location for many of the teams that really care about basketball (sorry UTEP, nothing is centrally located for you guys and rest of conference.)

A doable car drive for WKU, MTSU, Marshall, UAB, Charlotte.

If no mention of the bid comes during the announcement this afternoon then we need a FOIA request for that info. Minimum, or whatever his name is at the Virginia Pilot, got the info for Liberty's payment to ODU for their FB game thru an FOIA request.

Seriously? $100,000 to host one game?

So, someone correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think a FOIA request can be used here. FOIA applies to government entities. That would not apply to the Cowboys for sure, and I am about 99.999% sure it does not apply to C-USA either. Unless one of the schools has the info, I don't see you get it through FOIA.

5000 fans in the stands at $20 a pop covers each game and the school gets to keep concession money to cover overhead. If you are in the championship and cant get 7,000 fans playing at home...

you pay it out of pocket

Seriously? $100,000 to host one game?

Why not? Have the top 8 teams playing and the top 4 hosting...if you can't get 5,000 fans as a top 4 seed for a tourney game played at home. Then you eat the cost.. Hell tickets cost $37 each at UAB so $20 is a bargain.

If Tech was a top seed and did not want to host the team they play gets that chance. I think the other team takes it...

It should pay for itself
