It's Buckeye and Bearcat Day at the Ohio Statehouse
UC and Ohio State collaborate to address Higher Ed with the Ohio lawmakers today.
Hopefully someone suggests the politicians in this state and Ohio State could help Higher Ed by getting UC in a power 5 conference.

Eh, I should've gone. Got an invite, but am probably too busy at work to blow off a day.

Maybe someone asked why OSU gets twice as much funding per in state student than any other university in Ohio.

How about a declaration that Cincy is a flagship? Other states have two.

No they don't. Ono pulled that straight out of his ass. There's always a hierarchy between a Texas/A&M, Michigan/MSU, UVA/VaTech and so on. And Ono was either deceiving or ignorant regarding that, even in those cases, those are states that split the arts & sciences flagship from the A&M land-grant school. Ohio didn't. It founded OSU with the conscious decision to follow the Wisconsin, California, Minnesota, Illinois model of combining the two. UC can take two approaches in how to deal with the state. They can take Ono's approach of poking a stick at the 800 lb gorilla that has political and corporate support in every county in the state by doing stupid things and demanding co-flagship status or blaming his lack of achievement (particularly regarding a Comprehensive Cancer Center) on some OSU conspiracy. Or it can attempt to work with OSU to separate UC from the rest of the system and make it if not a co-flagship then something above and more important than KSU or Toledo in the eyes of the state. That may not be enough to appease the hard-core Republic of Cincinnati OSU haters, but quite honestly, it's the best that UC is going to get.
The fact that OSU and UC did this together suggests that Pinto has enough intelligence and perspective (remember, he's spent far more time at UC than Ono ever did) to distance himself from Ono's approach and begin working with OSU.

I think Cincinnati should just secede from Ohio and establish ourselves as a separate entity.
Not plausible, probably, but I have an opinion and I can say what I want.

I think we bring more to the table than Rhode Island... and possibly Delaware.

Interestingly enough, greater Cincinnati (with ~2.17 million residents) has a bigger population than Washington D.C. and the following 15 states:
- New Mexico
- Nebraska
- West Virginia
- Idaho
- Hawaii
- Maine
- New Hampshire
- Rhode Island
- Montana
- Delaware
- South Dakota
- Alaska
- North Dakota
- Vermont
- Wyoming
And if we end up combining MSAs with Dayton, that would bring our population to ~3 million and would be larger than these states as well:
- Mississippi
- Arkansas
- Utah
- Kansas
- Nevada
We would also be within swinging distance of Iowa (~3.1 million).

I think we should take the name "Ohio." After all, the state is named after OUR river.
Let the rest of the state become "Erie" or "Scioto" or "Buckeye."

Actually it's named after Kentucky's river

Technically, it's Pittsburgh's river since that's it's origin.

Screw Kentucky, and F-Pittsburgh. It's our river.
We're almost right in the middle (mile 484 out of 981).
Downtown Cincinnati is the only place where the land slopes gradually down to the River without steep hills on each side. As a result, most of the steamboats that sailed on her were made here. And today we have by far the biggest port on the River (the 13th biggest port in the USA).
Where was Tall Stacks held? Cincinnati.
Others may claim parts of her. But we have the biggest claim.

Technically, or better historically it is Virginia's river as they claimed all it's watershed from the beginning of recorded history.

They better pony up some cash for the new bridge, then.

Why do people think that's a thing? The trend seems to be to split up MSAs as the government did when they severed Akron from the Cleveland MSA. They're talking about doing the same with the Naperville-Schaumberg metroplex West of Chicago. They've also never combined the NoCal (SF-Oakland and San Jose) or SoCal (LA, Orange County and San Bernadino) MSAs in any fashion.

The idea that Ono never worked with OSU is laughable. You have some sort of vendetta against him and it comes out over and over.
