AP poll vs playoff champ

I think you are correct hokie, but it's the best chance a non p5 team has to be crowned #1

The big 10 I believe has done away with playing FCS and from what I recall want less games with non p5 FBS teams and let's see, nick saben said last year that he would like to see more p5 vs p5 and less everybody else, so dose espn
There are two schools in the P5 that do not have a G5 team on their schedule this year:
Duke has NC Central, Northwestern, Baylor and Army.
California has UNC, Weber State and Ole Miss.
Neither of these schools has a G5 next year either:
Duke plays Army, Northwestern, Baylor and Notre Dame, while Cal has UNC, BYU and Idaho State.
The fact that some conferences are not planning to play FCS opponents in the future means they will most likely play a G5 team (or independent) instead.

Less =/= none
Just a random sampling of future Big 10 OOC slates:
Iowa has a G5 game scheduled every year that they have OOC games other than Iowa State listed.
Ohio State has G5 games every season thru 2021, and plays an all G5 OOC in 2019.
Nebraska has two G5 games each year from now thru 2021 (the last year they have a full OOC slate filled out) and has a G5 game scheduled in 2023
For not wanting to play any G5 teams OOC there sure as hell are a lot of G5 games on the Big 10 schedule.
Quote:and let's see, nick saben said last year that he would like to see more p5 vs p5 and less everybody else, so dose espn
Again, less =/= none.
And the hypocrisy from the G5 folks here is amazing. In one thread they bash Alabama for scheduling light, then in this one bash them for scheduling tougher. Make up your rabbit-assed minds will you?
As for ESPN you may have a point. ESPN naturally wants more P5 vs P5 games because there's more money in it and that's ESPN's primary goal....to make money.

Of course Duke has upcoming home and homes scheduled with Middle Tennessee St, Charlotte, Temple, and Tulane, while Cal has upcoming games against San Jose St and Nevada so it's a case of year to year scheduling in both cases rather than "refusing to play non-P5 games"

What?
Rabbit-assed mind means you jump from one side to another in a nonsensical manner. Sounds like an apt description to me.
And up until the point you become a moderator you don't get to tell people what to do.

Pretty sure the comment was about G5 fans in general. You were the one who made it personal.

And my point was how rare it is for P5s to not schedule G5 teams. Even these two scheduled non-P5s, they just weren't technically G5, because they are independents.

Ok well I could be wrong, but I have heard saben saying something along these lines last year, but if there becomes a p5 trend to not play as many non p5 teams it will increase the difficulty of these non p5 teams to get access to your p5 championship playoffs

And if it happens it will be because of economics and not some diabolical plot to "keep the G5 down".
P5 vs P5 is overwhelmingly going to be a bigger draw than a P5 vs G5 game both at the gate and on TV. I'm sure David or someone else will be along shortly to point out a couple of exceptions but the vast majority of the time it's the truth. Clemson vs Temple last year is a likely Raycom/Fox Sports game and a minimum price ticket. Clemson vs Colorado is an ESPN/ABC type game and garners a premium ticket price. Why wouldn't Clemson choose to play Colorado over Temple?

The non p5 schools can control their own destiny if they form a playoff of their own but for fear of being reclassified as FCS and nobody wants that except many p5 posters here that I have seen
As far as a plot to keep non p5ers down, yeah I think there is something to this , I mean it makes sense as far as recruiting advantages go, I believe the the powers to be have got the non p5ers in a near perfect position to capitalize on this recruiting advantage even more now

What do you mean by "control their own destiny"? It is no doubt true that the P5 conferences would be perfectly willing to allow the G5 conferences (and independents) to withdraw voluntarily from the CFP. And, why wouldn't they? It would just mean more revenue for them to divide among themselves instead of sharing it with five other conferences.
But I can't imagine that they could command nearly as much money to broadcast a G5 playoff as they are getting now from the CFP. And at the end of the day, what does the winner of such a playoff get? What does their "champion" call itself? In the last twenty years or so, close to a third of the schools now in the G5 voluntarily walked away from an opportunity to play for a national championship. If that wasn't an incentive for them then, why would it be now?
As for a "plot" to keep the G5 down, that is pure paranoia. While many G5 fans imagine such a plot, the reality is that the schools in the P5 probably don't spend five minutes wondering or worrying about what the G5 might do. They don't need to. That, I believe, is what bothers some G5 fans the most - being treated as irrelevant by the P5.
