But there is a lot the committee says it cares about: seven wins over ranked teams, a 14-5 (from memory) road record, on pace for a high finish in a top conference, hot streak to end the season, and now votes in a poll.
If UTA loses only two games the rest of the way and makes it to the SBC Finals, they will be hard pressed to ignore those credentials. Not saying it wont happen, or that UTA will do that, but pointing out the at-large chances are still there.
Actually, it's not. It's happened plenty of times to mid-major conferences. Mark my words, if you're not in the 30's in RPI you stand a good chance of getting left out for a team from the SEC with a losing conference records and barely over .500 overall record.

There are plenty of documented examples of the selection committee completely ignoring mid major schools in exchange for .500 or so SEC teams.
You're going to need a Top 35 RPI to stand a chance. I just don't think you have enough to get there.

not only is the cart before the horse but the horse is taking a break and having a cold one. the mavs still have some games against good sbc teams and will be on the road at tcu and ut-austin, both ranked. we beat tcu sometimes but when teams go into austin to play there seems to be two different stike zones and always a couple of hard to explain calls by the the local umpire crew, so it is hard for a team like ours to win there.

UTA ranked #23 in the Collegiate baseball weekly poll to go with the receiving votes in the media poll.

RPI
South: 43
Louisiana: 55
Coastal: 64
Georgia Southern: 83
UT Arlington: 94
Troy: 99
Then there's a significant drop and the next team is .... App State.

Glad I'm not the only one that's noticed that.
Like the top 3 worst calls I've ever seen in collegiate baseball have all occurred at disch-faulk despite probably less than 1% of the collegiate baseball I've watched having occurred at disch-faulk.
It really is something else at that place.

Well, when the umps come out in Unis with Burnt Orange trim, and a longhorn stitched to the back of their caps, you know you're in for a long night . .. .

And the head of the crew is the son in law of the AD.

they did a good job in that game. the mavs just missed too many chances. back to back bases loaded with one out chances to put up runs squandered by hitting into dbl. plays will not help. dropped right out of all polls with ut-austin sneaking in instead.

Yes, but you also have 3 lovely games at our park, and our RPI is so horrible that any single loss to us will destroy your at large chances for eternity.
Then you have the Texas State series, and their RPI is so bad that a loss to them could destroy your at large chances
Then you have the conference tournament where there is certainly a chance to play and lose to a low RPI team.
I just don't see it.
