The 6-foot-2 combo guard from Claxton, Ga., averaged 19.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists at Eastern Florida State College en route to being named the Southern Conference player of the year for the second season in a row. In announcing Brewton's arrival, Memphis Coach Tubby Smith also hinted at on-court adjustments.
“Kareem is a guy that can get you a lot of points in a lot of ways,” Smith said in a statement. “He is an all-around athlete, is an outstanding team player, and a guy who can defend. We are looking for players with a certain set of skills that play the style of basketball that we want to employ — which is a pressing style — and he fits because he can guard multiple positions. He will be an outstanding addition to the Tiger family, and will have an immediate impact on the program.”

So, he wants to go to a pressing style. I can live with that! Changing of the guard perhaps?

Pressing is the way to go when you are short on talent.

I don't know how old you are but here are a few examples: There was millions of times when Prince and Bogan press and took steals. Cliff Hawking was a monster PG. Hashimu Evens that was also a Juco of I remember correctly was also a monster. Eric Daniels and Finch were the smartest basketball players that I have ever seen.
You can always watch the tapes if your parents let you.

Meanwhile, Memphis will do well because America is about protecting the underdogs. Tubby is being unfairly treated these days. I won't be surprised if some recruits come here just to prove the media wrong.

I don't put those losses on the Lawsons. I feel like they did their part. I will admit I was deeply troubled a couple of times during the season at their apparent levity with losing.
One game in particular, we were losing and I had to take my grandson home. I couldn't listen to the radio on the way because my grandson was telling me stories. After I dropped him off I turned on the radio and I thought I heard the score with Memphis losing and then it went to commercial. When they came back they started interviewing Dedric. He sounded so happy and was talking about what a great game he had, so I started thinking I must have misheard the score and that we had somehow pulled out the win. Then Wolo ended the interview saying "better luck next time, when we play them again we will get the win"..


Listening to his tone, I could not believe we lost. It was troubling to me, to say the least. This has been repeated many times by local media how going into the locker room after a loss never seemed like they cared at all (the entire team and staff) when they lost.

I have posted this in another blog, but I have to take a “wait and see approach as this is basically the only option I am given, However, I will say this, the perception out there from a few folks I talk to (one person has a son on an AAU team) is that Tubby does not appear to be working hard. This is my complaint, the only person I hear working and recruiting is Esposito. Is Pooh and Saul still in town? I don’t hear or see anything about them or their recruiting.
