Parrish ideas about Tubby
Interesting:
https://www.facebook.com/GaryParrishCBS/
So it's been a rough week for the University of Memphis basketball program -- one that culminated with Geoff Calkins asking whether Tubby Smith is the right coach for this job. For the sake of the conversation, let's say he's not. Or, at least, let's say the administration has decided, for a variety of reasons, that he's not. Lots of people have asked me if there's a way to fix things. Here would be one way: The school owes Smith $12.65 million over the next four years, which is an average of $3.16 million per year. Offer him $2 million a year -- a total of $8 million -- to walk away now. If he accepts, and I think he might, because this isn't what he anticipated at all, you sign Steve Forbes to a five-year contract worth $750,000 a year totaling $3.75 million. Forbes immediately makes Keelon Lawson a full-time assistant. So both Dedric and KJ Lawson stay at Memphis. And Chandler and Johnathan Lawson are required to immediately publicly commit, which would energize the fanbase. Then Forbes additionally recruits like crazy around the area, where he already has long and strong personal ties. He promotes the program and connects with the city in a pretty important way. And suddenly you’re in a better spot now, a way better spot going forward, and with less total money on the books. Is it drastic? Yes. But it's also sensible -- if, again, you're an administration looking for a way out of a less-than-ideal situation currently offering little hope.

Let the Lawson clan go. you can make other changes, but hanging on to that is not what is going to "energize" the fan base.

We now know who that mid major coach was..... haha.
There's so many ways for that to go completely wrong its not going to happen. The fact that Gary even thinks it might work it so weird.
I think Forbes would be great here. btw.... in two years if he's available.
We have two returning players, we would have four if this crazy scenario works. Seriously people? Y'all please don't start gambling.

It's way too early to judge Tubby, but if something were to change, Forbes would be the guy. Should have been the guy from the get go.

Papa Lawson got pictures of this guy with a goat? I don't understand why people are so enamored with the Lawson's. Let them go.
As for Forbes, why is he still at ETSU? I think he is a good coach, but he ain't Izzo, or K. The only reason he is mentioned is because some people think they would have access if he were the coach.

The Lawsons are not going to get you in the tourney by themselves.

I guess half the SEC coaches are off base too, huh?

You may be right. I don't know.
Do know the guy is the kind of recruiter Memphis needs AND he understands the area.
He's still at ETSU because it's only been 2 years. And I imagine some schools are rattled by the show cause too.
But you know all of this and are just being contrarian.

Parrish has admitted to being close, personal friends with Steve Forbes and his wife.
How does Parrish have any credibility at all as a journalist? He's crossed the line of observe and report.
That said, I posted on this board before they hired Tubby that they should have hired Forbes.

Would you rather have them on the roster or not? Good lord.

Parrish doesn't talk in this kind of specifics without first having had conversations with "people".

Are Forbes and Lawson that close that Lawson would turn down an SEC job to walk back into the hornets nest?
The Lawson's wanted a change. Let them have it. That family was under a lot of stress here, coming back wouldn't help the situation.
Gary just wants someone to come on his radio station for the next two years.
If Tubby drops under 15 wins go ahead and fire him and hire Forbes next year. In March, not April. This isn't the time to throw a grenade into a rebuild.

RE: Parrish ideas about Tubby
Does GP (and others) have something to gain by Forbes being named head coach? Sure...
But that doesn't make him wrong here.
I am 100% on board with everything he proposed - including the Lawson bit. I want to win. The rest is really insignificant to me.
