Grand Canyon University To The Mountain West Conference?
http://www.mwcconnection.com/2017/4/8/15...and-canyon

This article points out how the Mountain West Conference that is losing ground to the AAC. MWC had a chance to grab Wichita State a few years ago, but the stupid rule for a school to have football is making the conference fall even further behind the AAC. Grabbing Grand Canyon U. now could gain the MWC a large tv market, but also an up and rising basketball school that have drawn fan support. Should the MWC go after non-football schools like Gonzaga, Saint Mary's and Grand Canyon U.? Also bring back BYU and UTEP to make it 14 football 17 basketball schools? It could make one conference better than AAC. The article also points out that Grand Canyon U. could add football down the road when they are needed.

MWC should be bold and go for Uconn. Uconn has wandering eyes and were going to be in a conference with SDSU and BSU before so it would not be a huge stretch.

A for-profit University in Phoenix named after the crack in the Earth that is actually finishing up its Division I reclassification and will be NCAA eligible beginning '17-'18.

Their basketball team is coached by former Phoenix Sun Dan Majerle and they have developed a rabid fan base. They have won 81 games over the past 4 years. They have nice facilities and have money and the backing of Jerry Colangelo as well.

I would rather see the Mountain West add Seattle - it would be easier to pull off politically, it makes a viable travel partner for Boise State, and it makes for divisions consistent with those in football should the Mountain West elect to use them.

RE: Grand Canyon University To The Mountain West Conference?
calling BYU bluff was mistake, should have kept BYU BB only

How is Grand Cayon for profit & others school are not
endowmeant is not profit

i like Seattle as #12 also,
would think about NMST BB only, with alliance with thier fb program
Pac-12 ever taps NM, NMST ready to jump right in

For athletics purposes, I would like to add GCU. It fills a geographic hole in the footprint of the conference. It provides a large city for the MW with a great fanbase. And if they ever added football, that would be a big bonus.

But, the MW presidents would never go for it.

Not Happening. This is copycat thinking, and a poor version of it. GCU has zero NCAA appearances, and has not proven its ability to sustain through multiple coaching changes. There is also the suspicion that most of the budget is Majarle's salary. They have not recruited the sort of athlete that would make a difference at the major level. This is simply the on court.

Off court there are too many issues about the school. This is not one the Presidents of MWC schools want to associate with.

Now there is one school MWC ADs have talked openly about adding as a non-Football member, Brigham Young. It's there should they get tired of the WCC and it's rinky dink gyms.

Of course GCU has zero NCAA appearances as a Division 1 member - they've been ineligible because of the transition period. That ends in July.

Grand Canyon is intriguing and the MW (and Big West too 05-stirthepot) should consider them, academics be damned.

Doubt it. BYU is now with all like-minded institutions. And you do know the WCC and its rinky dink gyms sent a member to the national championship game, right?

I seriously doubt that this happens. I don't see Grand Canyon Education, Incorporated d/b/a Grand Canyon University (GCEIDBAGCU) getting in the MWC

GCU is all in for basketball. I doubt they ever consider football. Not when their goal is the WCC.
