In less than a year on the job...
Tubby has admitted he hired a S&C coach too late.

Tubby bemoaned the job expectations.

Tubby ran off more than half the rostered players.

Tubby offered a D2 player.

Tubby hired his own son yet complained about a father/son dynamic in the Lawsons.

Tubby admitted he underestimated the local recruiting scene.

Tubby was fine with meeting expectations - picked 5th, finished 5th.

Tubby admitted he failed to develop his bench.

These seem like a lot of alarming missteps for a 30+ year college coaching vet.

I'm sure glad I didn't get back on board when they hired Tubby.. I knew and said it was a bad hire.. He doesn't recruit well enough and never has.. Hired a Coach who hasn't recruited in the past and expected him at his age to all of a sudden turn over a new leaf.. Ever since he left Kentucky no big program has ever tried to hire him.. Why? Because he doesn't go after the big time HS kids and all the big programs know it.. Memphis hired him because he has a NC under his belt which wasn't even players he recruited, they were already in place recruited by Pitino.. I have nothing against Tubby I'm sure he is a great guy but Memphis missed the boat bigtime by hiring him when they had gotten a gift with Pastner leaving..

Does seem a bit odd he hasn't gotten more traction. He's talked about around here like he's the next John Wooden.

FWIW I think he'd be a solid hire, but I wonder why he hasn't gotten more serious looks. Probably needs 1 more good year
