OT: FCS upsets over FBS teams this upcoming season
The Sargin Ratings (http://sagarin.com/sports/cfsend.htm) give pretty good insight on how these teams match up but I'm curious to hear opinions.

Trying not to be too biased, but I really like the Dukes' chances at ECU.

Also, I will not be surprised at all if Jax State has my Yellow Jackets on the ropes in the 4Q. GT comes off a Monday night opener against the Vols and has a trip to Central Florida in Week 3. Short week...potential overlook...solid JSU team...perfect storm/recipe for upset.

Would Maine over UMASS really count as an upset?

What?!?!?! Sam Houston Stats isn't playing an FBS team this year?!?! Something must have gone wrong with the release because that cannot be possible that one of the best teams in the nation isn't playing a quality opponent.

FBS teams are definitely not created equal. Huge gap between a bottom-feeder G5 team vs a mid-level P5 team. Makes some of NDST's victories all that more impressive. Except for the NDST win, that first quarter against UNC was one of the most exciting moments in JMU football in quite a while.

JB needs to hurry up and sign deals for 2020-2025. Come Sept. 3, we might find no FBS opponents will want us on their schedule. This happened to NDSU once they became too successful against FBS.

there definitely is a difference, but NDSU has gotten lucky (or just scheduled very wisely) to not even play mid-level P5 teams. more often than not, they're playing bad P5 teams. Kansas, Colorado State, Minnesota, and Iowa State were all bad teams. those teams were a combined 12-36. they beat an ok Kansas State team and a good Iowa team. i'd love to see them play at Ohio State or something (mainly because NDSU never gets crushed by anyone and I would love to watch that happen).

They will play Oregon in the next few years, but we will see what shape Oregon is in by then.

That Iowa team they played last year crushed Iowa State 42-3. Iowa was ranked #13 at the time, finished 8-5.

This year (and going forward?) I don't see any FBS teams on the NDSU schedule and their fans aren't happy about it. They have Robert Morris, EWU and MS Valley shown as their OOC opponents.

I'd love JMU to be the team that "crushes" NDSU this year, at BFS 02-13-banana

I don't believe Myrtle Beach Community College has 85 on a full ride yet.

I hear what you are saying, but SEC is always looking for FCS teams and I'm confident Alabama would not shy away from us or NDSU.

Until the SEC follows suit of other power conferences and ban teams from playing FCS teams.

I think you might have missed what I was saying here. Or maybe I'm not understanding you. All the P5 teams I've listed are the teams NDSU has played since 2010. The Iowa State team I was referencing went (I believe) 2-10 that year.

but yes, I would LOVE to beat them in BFS, or more importantly beat the living crap out of them anywhere. I felt like we could have won by more than 10 last year, and 17 would have even more satisfying.

Or until a couple more upsets (e.g. Citadel over USC) happen, which would also give them reason to ban FCS games and protect their power ratings.

I'd be shocked if we ever get UVA or VT on our schedule as an FCS team again. P5 schools only schedule FCS games as an easy tuneup. They aren't looking for real competition.

If JMU beats ECU, it would be a stretch to call it an upset. ECU lost 9 of their last 10 in 2016, most of those losses were blowouts. JMU has a very good team returning so I would suggest that a loss by JMU would be an upset.

It can't hurt that Dudzik was on Duke's staff when current ECU head coach Scottie Montgomery was the offensive coordinator there. Plus Kirkpatrick knows most of the players on the ECU roster firsthand. Game planning should be a stone cold lock.
